Easy drummer 2 opens from protools but it doesn’t open by itself without the daw. Should it?
Yes. There should have been a standalone version installed.
If you give me more info about your system (Mac or PC for example), I can tell you where it should be installed to.

I have windows 7.
There is a shortcut to easy drummer on my desktop but when I click it easy drummer doesn’t open
The 64-bit standalone installs to location C:Program FilesToontrackEZdrummer
Do you have the EZdrummer64.exe in that location?

Do you have a 32-bit version of W7? I would recommend installing the 64-bit version for standalone use and you can still use the 32-bit version if you’re using a 32-bit host. In any case, the 32-bit standalone EZdrummer.exe should be in C:Program Files (x86)ToontrackEZdrummer. Is it there?
