I posted this message in the requests and feedback forum, but I think I should have posted it here.
I would appreciate any comments thanks.
Quite some time ago I purchased EZkeys and then when I received a promotional offer, I bought some additional midi packs. However I have to say that I have only occasionally used Ezkeys for experimenting with chord progressions and have never used the product in a final musical composition. None of the midi styles suit the type of music I write and often the Midi pack phrases won’t correctly play the chords and inversions that I want to use.
I tried an experiment the other day, I typed out the chords for the well known Bert Bacharach song “Always Something There To Remind Me” Although it’s a simple Bossa Nova, I couldn’t find one midi style from any of my tracks that would fit properly.
The Sampled piano is very realistic and I like the chord picker which I use for working out progressions and inversions but as I said, once I select a midi style, the inversions are lost.
I wouldn’t buy anymore midi packs or recommend EZkeys.
PS> I’ve just bought “Scaler” which is a great tool for working out chords, modes and scales. It was a fraction of the price of EZkeys.
Hi Bernard,
Sorry to hear you have been not able to produce what you were hoping to produce thru EZKEYS…..I see that you have tried many things to reproduce what you would like the unit to achieve…..
I can tell you that I have found it to be an invaluable tool and have been using it for almost two years now…I have purchased many of the midi packs but have also found that the basic pack that comes with it works very nice also for many applications.
When I work with EZK I can use it in several ways…the most basic is like you had mentioned you put a bunch of chords together and find some grooves….Me not being a keyboard guy tis has helped me immensely! I’ll tap out the chords and then take just sections to find what I need for a specific part (ie. chorus-verse-bridge)…now a lot of the time that groove will only be about 80% of what I would like it to be so I either cut out that chord so I can manipulate it with the chord wheel or I might have to drag it into my DAW and tweak some notes….But one way or another we can come up with some BRILLIANT trks using this little device…
I know some of these music “TOYS” can be great fun or great frustration….The factor we have to decide is it something we can work with or do we need to look somewhere else….
Hope that helps, Jeff
Thanks for the reply Jeff
Since buying EZkeys I’ve found the chord wheel very useful for finding interesting chord progressions. I then import the “static” chords into Cubase as a midi track and use it as a basis for a song. But I have yet to find a usable style from any of the midi packs that suits my music, “Cheesey synth pop”
Anyway thanks for the reply and maybe I’ll keep trying.
Bernie
Hey Bernie,
Cheesy 80’s stuff eh? Lol… I saw this on YouTube… might be able to chase down some videos from here… https://youtu.be/7vh_5RDi1e4
Also just found these….80’s midi packs… listening to the individual packs demo on their own were not very inspiring but this combo vid sounds cool….
Another trick I learned after awhile was to go to the top right of ezk and try the grooves in either 1/2 time or 2x …. just push thru the buttons
