I once tested the Yamaha Grand, but eventually opted for the humble upright piano, so, before installing it on my iMac, I cautiously cleaned up the demo-polluted folders:/library/application support/ezkeys /library/audio/plug-ins /applications/Toontrack
Now the newly installed (1.1.2) audio unit is playing fine as a plug-in to Logic, but the EZkeys standalone application was not installed by any of the downloadable files; I first installed the basic engine, i.e. TT215_ezkeys_upright_piano_mac.dmg, then updated it with the 3 extra packages supplied:TT215_ezkeys_upright_piano_up_mac_101.dmg ezkeys_player_mac_112.dmg ezkeys_core_midi_up_mac.dmg
In fact, I ran this sequence of four installers half a dozen times to make sure I made no mistake, but no standalone EZkeys was ever installed in the /applications/Toontrack folder… Am I missing something obvious?
The EZkeys operation manual reads, p. 17:
At the time of installation, EZkeys will have installed the standalone version and provide a desktop shortcut…
For some reason, this didn’t happen in my case; so, which file is to be downloaded if I need the standalone EZkey Upright Piano yo be actually installed?
Well, both the ‘TT215_ezkeys_upright_piano_mac.dmg’ and ‘ezkeys_player_mac_112.dmg’ installs the standalone, so I’m not sure what is happening on your system. Is your signature correct?

Yes, John: my signature is up to date… You’re right, both of these packages explicitely state that they’re about to install the standalone version, but they don’t actually install it: I’ve used FSeventer (a program that graphically tracks filesystem changes in real time — what is happening on the hard drives, and where it is happening), so I’m sure the standalone application was never copied onto any of my disks! Moreover I never had any error message at installation time, nor any alert window related to the operating system version; all of my 7 successive install sessions went smoothly, without a hitch (I made abundant screen-captures to be able to check retrospectively that everything went well), and the plug-in itself is performing like it should. And anyway, the software is compatible with OS X 10.5.8 — it’s mentioned somewhere.
Here is the 5th snapshot; notice that the EZkeys standalone entry is greyed out, meaning the standalone installation defaults to install: I couldn’t even have unchecked the box to disable it… Also notice that the action column reads ‘upgrade’ but that makes no sense, since it never installed! file://16309/CAD1BDD3C1D94018B809533BC8B39CBB.gif
The 12th step here tells me where the standalone was installed, but there’s nothing new there — just Toontrack Solo, plus the sound mover and a Toontrack uninstaller… By the way, with more than 300 GB left on my boot drive, it’s obviously more than enough for accomodating the room needed to copy a mere 13 MB program! And of course, I didn’t move nor rename that folder, which has been sitting there for many years… file://16309/08B4FDB0187F4353BC27DE6E0F0E2973.gif
And if you Search in the Finder or Spotlight for ‘ezkeys’, you do not get any hits?

Thanks for helping me. Searching? This is precisely what I did to locate the remnants of the demo in the first place; but now a search for ‘ezk’ won’t reveal an application which hasn’t been installed… And I should mention there’s no symbolic link to a ‘toontrack’ folder on another drive.
Ok, if you run the uninstaller, then the installer again and choose to Default install instead of a Custom Install, does it work then?

Ah, John, the problem with this uninstaller is it’s unreliable: it doesn’t actually know what’s been installed, and it’s missing Toontrack Solo, Superior Drummer and Ezkeys among others! Look at that blue line below: it won’t even tell us what it was that it wasn’t able to find! That’s why I cleaned up the place by hand before installing EZkeys… file://16309/82461C1B8DDA411A860AADAA48EC1F39.gif

That’s just a separator line, between plugin components and the folders. Also, this is the EZdrummer uninstaller. I would like you to run the EZkeys uninstaller.

Sorry, this is the only uninstaller I’ve got in the Toontrack folder: I can’t run another. Thank you for all your suggestions: they gave me the support I needed to look further and deeper… But hey, look what I’ve already got without having to reinstall everything for the 8th time… Now this is totally unexpected: I’ve just used a program that searches inside packages, any level deep, and there it was at the 3rd level, deep inside an EZkeysPlayer package receipt pushed aside in the system’s library folder after use… And it works it works like a charm, indeed – I don’t even have to pull it out of its hideout to check that it runs as expected: moreover it’s the 1.1.2 release – on par with the latest plug-ins (i.e. not the ones included in that particular package). file://16309/C54399C0ACEC46A3BEB7F58B0549F42D.gif Thinking it over, all of this is utterly weird: – applications left out on the shelf instead of getting copied where they should – plug-ins that don’t match their application as regard their release number – packages released in version 0 – plug-ins that install even when they’re told no to – uninstallers that don’t do their job properly… And this is certainly not an access-privilege problem: as a member of the ‘staff’ and ‘admin’ groups, I’m an administrator of this machine.
Ok, the EZkeys uninstaller is included in the Installer packages but I am going to forward this, since you have a very unique behavior on your system. I may have to get back to you for retrieving additional info.

Thank you so much, John: it’s a big, big relief, and I’m glad I’m now able to use the standalone version!
What probably has happened is that you deleted the demo manually (which isn’t needed, since the full product installer upgrades the demo automatically) without emptying your Trash, which made the installer aware that there was a previous installation (tracked by the OS) and updated it. Why this can happen is a Mac OS thing more than a Toontrack installer thing. If you’re up and running and happy with it, that’s all that matters now. If you run into any problems, we’ll take it from there. BR, John
