Hi all,
I can’t find anything in the manual about this. Is there no way to subdivide the note editor into tuplets? I programmed a beat in Ableton Live 10.1 in Live’s Piano Roll with septuplets using an easy workaround, but part of why I wanted SD 3 was to do all of this in SD 3’s note grid so I could easily program articulations by name and not MIDI note.
I tried importing the septuplet beat into SD 3, but as soon as I tried to move a hi-hat hit from one articulation to another, it snapped to the 16th note grid SD 3 was set to.
Can anyone help me out here?
Thanks,
Frank
Did anyone find an answer to this? Im trying to record a Plini cover that uses septuplets and loathe using a piano roll to programme
OP here, still no answers and no workaround.
EDIT: I will say this problem doesn’t seem unique to SD. Far from it, actually. Also to be clear.

Toontrack’s hidden answer to that question is to spend some time practicing with a metronome and play it live

Thanked by: fcifarelliWe need TUPLETS! We need NESTED TUPLETS!
As Fcifarelli pointed out, it seems that one has to compose in another program such as Guitar Pro 8, Finale, Cubase etc. and import, only to lose the structure with any additional editing.
I realize that it’s easy for me to sit hear and complain when this feature is likely a coding nightmare… however, with the changing times and musicians constantly pushing the envelope, this is a must.
C’mon team! Help us push the boundaries of creative, rhythmic absurdity and implement this very necessary tool

Thanked by: fcifarelliI use Cubase drum maps. No problems associated with using midi inside sd3. If inside a DAW then I prefer to keep my midi in one place and that’s in the DAW arrangement window and not in a plugin. Cuts out a multitude of problems I see on here.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
Fair enough, but I paid €300 for SD3. The solution should not be “use your DAW” or “buy a DAW like Cubase so you can use the Drum editor”.
I’m trying to be fair as I also work in this industry and know these solutions are not always easy to implement. It does suck that my original post is almost three years old and there hasn’t been a reply, though.
To be honest I would have paid for sd3 without a midi editor as sd2 didn’t have one and I’m more interested in the sounds and playability from an edrum kit.
Saying that I fully understand your frustration that there has been no reply to this from toontrack. I also think that for anyone using the drum editor then this feature should exist.

Totally understand your use case and the sounds Toontrack make are, in my opinion, second to none. It’s just frustrating. And (and not to harp on about this) when part of the advertising and the reviews used for advertising call it “a DAW for drums” then such things as tuplets (especially for a DAW that exists solely for percussion sounds) should, in my opinion, be factored into development.
In any event, thanks a lot for the dialog. Very much appreciated!

Thanked by: Mark King and JacxinI was having the same problem so what I did it’s either use the resolution used by snap, or if you wanna go more into the micro hits use the nudge tool.
I’m not a drummer … I’m programming it in and that’s why I would like the feature of more subdivisions
No tuplets grid and they call it “Superior” Drummer 3 !
Now that IS comedy !

The sounds are superior as is the edrum implementation. Sd2 didn’t even have the editor.

What good are sounds if you can’t use it fully rhythmically ?
Superior Drummer 3 is soon 6 years ( SIX Years ) old and still have tons of issues that should’ve be fixed during the first six months !
Toontrack should rename their product to “Mediocre Drummer 3” to accurately describe what it actually is capable of!
I mean how hard is it to make every instrument having an independent grid where you easily could choose your tuplets ?
Then you could easily have 3 against 2 etc etc !
I guess Toontrack’s coders have no clue on what music’s all about !
