Rock Foundry is still my go-to SDX. Fields of Rock will only give me more options.

Releases are probably timed to US business hours. We waited this long. A little more won’t kill us.

I am currently at work, so I am unable to play with the SDX until later. However, I am totally impressed from listening to the presets that are on the website. I had noticed a familiar sonic ambiance to them, and then when I discovered that some of my favourite albums were recorded at Rockfield, I was like “no wonder.” I am not going to be wasting any time integrating this SDX into some songs.

Some of the preset names had me chuckling as well. Must be taking some warped minds on overtime combined with an excellent company drug plan to be coming up with names like “Budgie Smuggler” and “Philth Spector”. 😀

Looks like I might have more than Fields on Rock today. Toontrack must have just added the SDX Value Pack option making my day that much more difficult. Not because I’m spending a bit more money, but because I have to decide which two out of the other three packs I don’t have, do I want to get.  So far I have it narrowed down to:

    1. Fields of Rock (that’s a given)
    2. Death & Darkness

My other two choices are Decades and Rooms of Hansa. I find myself leaning towards Hansa as the recorded drums seem more to match the music I write. Not to mention that Udo Masshoff is no stranger to me as he was the drum production genius behind NI’s Studio Drummer, which set me on my journey to find quality recorded drums long before SD3. No disrespect meant towards Al Schmitt as Decades sounds amazing. I’m just of the mindset that it doesn’t sound like me.

    Oh the huge manatees…

I’m afraid I don’t have fiber connection, is there any way to get it in chunks?

Still, 163gb really would a big hassle to download and install on my drive. But man, it’s sounds so much better than anything else. Those preset examples are insane, does it come with a bunch of midi too?

Meh, I’m about to test the full extent of my bandwidth and fill up the remaining space on my drum & sample library RAID, but it’s going to be well worth it!!

Every SDX that I have came with MIDI. I am pretty sure that this one will contain some tasty grooves. It is not a showstopper to me otherwise.

Hi Jord – I have a question and can also give some input on yr questions. I have just bought FOR and looks great but I need time to explore properly. From what you have seen is there anything in Rock Foundry that I cant get in FOR ? (refer my question earlier on in this thread)

I have D&D and Hansa (and now FOR) but not Decades. D&D and Hansa are awesome and from what I see of what you do and your comments above, I think these 2 would be best choice and can certainly say they are both my current favourites. FOR is now likely to be part of my top 3. Cheers, Andrew

Has anyone tried this with edrums yet? I’m just wondering how it responds. Does it have tip and edge on cymbals (d&d doesn’t on all crashes)

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
