Ok, yes, I have read the manual. Still don’t get it. I am using the M Audio Axiom Pro midi controller keyboard. Very surprised that this is NOT listed in the presets available. It’s an industry standard controller. It is on ALL other competitor VSTs, just plug and play. But here I sit, having to read and program. Anyway.I’ve gone to settings, Midi, drum. I have created a user preset called MAudio. The column on the left shows the drum sounds and a vertical keyboard. When I click on the different keys, I get drum sounds. When I click on my keyboard midi controller, I get nothing. the bottom area still says “waiting on Midi”When I select learn and select a keyboard key, it doesn’t learn the sound. I would really rather be making music than dealing with all of this. If someone would be so kind as to direct me on to how to make this happen, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Have you selected your MIDI device in the MIDI In / E-Drums Settings tab by clicking the Select a MIDI Device button? Once clicked a window will appear that displays all connected MIDI controllers.

Hi,
Was going to say the same thing as Scott —
Try going to “settings” – select “midi-in/e-drums” — On the next window, click the “select a midi device” button (near the top) —
A window will pop-up showing all the scanned midi-devices. If your M-Audio is missing, click “rescan” —
If you see the M-Audio Controller in the list – select that – and click “apply” —
That will usually do it —

Also check your Audio/MIDI Setup to see what devices are listed and what channel SD3 is receiving MIDI on (you might want to set it to All if it isn’t already).
Your keyboard should come with software that allows you to configure the pads. It’s probably better to configure them to the General MIDI standard in order to allow you to play the standard articulations in SD3’s default mapping, as well as configure them to your playing style.

Ok, wow. So, first, I was trying to do all of this through my Daw, Cubase, and it never prompted to select a midi device. So, I just went through the stand alone SD3 and found the select midi device. It has detected my keyboard, and I have tried at least three times (apply/ok) and it is still not working. At least I am headed in the right direction.
In standalone, have you clicked the box next to your device (as shown in the pic)?
As for Cubase, you’ll need to make sure Cubase is detecting your MIDI device as well, and that the Instrument Track/Rack input is set to that device and that the Monitor button is active on that track also.

I use SD3 with Cubase as well as well. Make sure you are creating an “instrument track” not a midi track. When you create an instrument track Cubase will ask you what instrument you want to assign to that track. Choose Superior Drummer’ from the dropdown list and you’re good to go.
I do this everyday so if you have any other questions just let me know.

Yes, thank you. And then….after banging my head against a wall for hours…….it just started to work, for no apparent reason. Thank you everyone. Sorry for bitching. I was pulling my hair out!
awesome ……
We all have less hair than we used to! 🙂

Yes, thank you Mac. I am able to drag grooves to Cubase. But for some reason, when I go to settings/drums from inside Cubase, the select midi device is not an option. Only in stand alone mode. After several attempts in standalone mode trying the options available, it required a full reboot and fresh Cubase project to work.
Cooper, give me a few minutes and I’ll be back at my music computer and I’ll go through the entire process (just to make sure I don’t miss anything) and post a response.

Cooper,
Questions:
Have you defined your midi keyboard in the Cubase device manager?
Does it show up in the inputs list of your instrument track?

I set up a track and set the midi channels for Sup Drummer. My axiom 61 works fine. My drums are where I set them up to be. eg keys A G F E D (toms)
Next track – the keyboard is not aligned with the midi channels. Those same notes are playing cymbals. Everything is set the same. What am I missing.
The thing is.. I have it working fine in one project. eg My toms are all together on the white keys – A,G,F,E,D,. On my other projects the keys do not trigger the toms. They are random and are mostly cymbals. There must be a way of telling superior drummer midi settings to talk to the keyboard (like it is in my first project that’s working correctly).
I did set up a new project from scratch and I still have the same problem.
