I would love to see a reggae SDX. I know there’s an ez drummer reggae but I would love to see a new one with the sd3 quality.
There is a huge gap in the market for quality/authentic reggae drum samples. So many people would jump over this if it was done properly. The reggae drum sound is an art form for sure and not the easiest to nail with samples.
My wish would be for them to record it in Jamaica with Jamaican drummers (perhaps Aston Barrett jr) to get that authentic sound and feel. A tight dry room with a variety of snares. Snare sounds from dampened and fat to tight and crisp. There are currently no good snare samples out there with that tight snare Carlton Barrett drum sound that almost sounds like a timbale but with snares on. A wide variety of articulations need to be recorded for this particular snare sound in order to make it as authentic as possible.
Toweled toms and snares, crisp hi hats, and fat kicks.
The reggae ezx sounds and quality just don’t cut it for me. They sound quite thin and generic. Although I did have a lot of fun with those sounds for awhile.
Who else would love to see this happen? What would your wish list for this kit be?
I would love this as well but seeing as this post is quite old and there was only one response I’m not hopeful
Easy to reproduce with stock sounds and packs that already exist.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
I’ve been asking them to do a Proper SDX for reggae. Go to Jamaica work with Anchor Studio they could work with Delroy “Phatta” Pottinger one of the best Engineers in Jamaica He works with plenty top JA drummers and get a sdx that has a modern real Jamaican formula. The EZX reggae one is dated and terrible. You can tell they didn’t work with no Jamaicans when they made it. https://www.instagram.com/anchorrecordingstudios/
Actually with the toms and kick and hi hat yest. But the Snares are sampled completely wrong for reggae. The don’t play the rim shots proper for reggae or even tune the snare correct for the JA formula “sound.” BFD3’s Londons Black Snare is the closes thing.
a great funk sdx would be awesome too, covering the entire jamiroqua, but also nate smith/fearless flyers range
I agree Totally! A Reggae SDX would be so amazing and there is a huge gap in the market for this. The Reggae EZX is Ok.. the Midi is pretty lame though and the kits are very limited, I don’t like either of the hat sounds, please bring the real riddim’s to the SDX range.. + you guys will get to go to Jamaica
