I’m gonna sound like an idiot here but, I’m new to this whole MIDI thing. I should have done more research before buying EZDrummer because it is not at all what I was hoping it would be. I do all of my home recordings using .wav format (before converting them to mp3). Don’t laugh but I use Audacity as my editor and mixer. I can’t seem to figure out how to transfer drum tracks (or save them for that matter!) to Audacity.
I know that Audacity doesn’t support MIDI files in it’s native form. But, I found and downloaded a VST plug-in that’s supposed to fix this issue. Looks like my main problem actually creating my own drum loops, or simply using the preset grooves, and saving them for later use. Do I need to use another “host” program like ProTools or EZMix to use EZDrummer effectively?
I’m having a rough time here and I appreciate any help I can get!! Thanks.
Hi,
a compatible host, capable of loading virtual instruments is required, yes. EZmix, however is a plugin, not a host.
Please check the compatibility list on the EZdrummer product page.

You can try REAPER without it costing you anything. It’s a small download and it is not intrusive on your system.
-it might be a bit different from Audacity so you may feel a little lost at first (it tends not to use tools) but read the first few chapters of the guide and ask questions on the REAPER forums if you get stuck -it’s a lively place and they’re a helpful bunch.
I use it with EZDrummer and also it’s big brother, Superior. You can drag MIDI grooves into the MIDI editor and name the notes in it to easily tweak hits.
Try it and ask if you need any help, I’m on the REAPER forums too.
