When you pencil in notes they might be pre set at a certain midi velocity between approx 80 and 100 ,max velocity is 127 so you may want to find a way to get to that higher velocity .
Its a good idea not to use it all the time so your parts have dynamics.
In EZ there is the button that turns on/off humanization.unfortunately unlike SD2 it is only Global.
Most of the time for hats, snr fills and tom filsl it is a great asset as it helps things sound real but some hits or samples in the sample pool do jump out more than others.
You can get around this several ways .

Thanks for the quick response. Actually I am using Superior Drummer 2.

So once you said velocity I messed around with it and it worked by setting Hard velocity to 0. I don’t get it!

So your now getting a response from the SD2 engine of full velocity no matter if you program in a very soft velocity. just a workaround.
Best to find the settings or preference that gives you control over each note you put in/pencil in ,that way you can get more dynamics not just Loud start to finish.
As an example a snare drum might play at 120-127 on beats 2&4 but ghost note in between may be anywhere like 20-80 to give you realism.

Regarding the kick in SD2 you can experiment with turning off some not all randomization parameters until your ears say Yes.

Hm, so then how do I select a specific key on the piano roll to change the velocity?

As for the double bass, I figured out it was because I was inputting each individual kick instead of making a large line and doing “quick chop”.

    Again, thanks for your help.

I dont use your Daw .
I would guess you just click on a snare note or double click to bring up a in depth midi list editor .
In Logic Pro a double click brings up a Midi “list editor” and in there you can enter or re-enter in values of one or many selected notes simultaneously.
Also around the area of your Piano Roll do you notice any numbers in a little parameter box or something that (prefs) that can be changed,as that may be the default velocity value which seems like you need to know how ti raise it up. Check you manual too.

To add to what juicy’s offered…
    http://flstudio.image-line.com/help/html/pianoroll.htm
…#4 & #9 in the illustration on that page is where I’d focus my attention.

And if you start doing it and think, “man… this is tedious” …well… yep… it is. 😛
That’s why it’s much more favorable to be able to record/play things in on a keyboard or other MIDI controller capable of outputting velocity-sensitive MIDI Note messages.
But even then, you’ll likely go back and hand-tweak things to perfection, so it’s a good idea to get familiar with these details of the Piano Roll anyway.

I don’t know where you set up default velocity in FL Studio, I’m afraid.
    [edit]
It may not be possible.  Just ran across this section of the help…
    http://flstudio.image-line.com/help/html/mixer_levelsandmixing.htm
    …that states…

The default note velocity in FL Studio is 100 (MIDI = 0 to 127).

…but doesn’t mention any way to change that default.

Thats not very cool of FL,the use of the word “default setting” does perhaps shed some hope thats input value is editable.??

    Out of interest ,
In Protools (im just getting into it) when you select a Piano roll note it (by default) grabs all “events” on that note so it would be just a simple case of one edit from 100 up to 127 if thats what you want to do.
They also have a little box with a number for telling you what the velocity will be of current notes being entered.
There is then a drop down that gives you a view of Pitch bend, mod and VELOCITY Per Note.

But…..Yes agree with the Godprobe Playing stuff in is way more organic & intuitive ,make no doubt though ,then controlling that midi is a important part of what we all do.

    Hi, here’s how you do it;

As you can see, the velocity of the last edited note, is what the next note will have. You can change one note at a time, or you can click and hold left mouse button and drag to “draw”.

Make sure you are working with velocity at the bottom of the piano roll. by right clicking in the gray area in the bottom left corner of my image and selecting velocity.

    Good luck!

Wow, the GIF really did it for me. Thanks to all of you!
