Multiple kits from one EZD3 Midi track?

Hello there –

I am wondering about using one midi performance (using an EZD3 kit as sound source through my Roland td-27) to bounce down audio files from 2 totally different EZD3 drumkits. (I am using Logic Pro).

After bouncing down the midi to multi-channel sub tracks and exporting them as stems…can I then unmute the midi track and somehow map it to a different drum kit?  Would the same sub tracks apply, or would it be a whole new mapping, ie would I need to delete all the multi channel sub tracks and start from scratch?

I don’t completely understand your endgame. If your question was this…

Yes you can, via the Midi Out workflow. Demonstrated here except with EZkeys.

If I’m understanding you, try making more than one drum track with the same midi on each. You can then give each track its own kit.

No need to duplicate any MIDI. Create a Summing Track Stack with the two instances of EZD3. Your MIDI will then go on the output track that contains the stacked instruments. Both instances of EZD3 will then play your MIDI.

My endgame is…I want to record a drum track – using my Roland kit – as a midi track…but I want to bounce down to audio TWO different drum kits from that midi track, so the producer has two totally different kits to chose from.  (I want to use one kit from the bright room and one from the main room).  So I want to end up sending stems for two different bass drums, two snares, etc.  (I know some of the microphone settings are different between the rooms – the main room has close mics on toms where the bright room doesn’t, I believe…). But the thing is, I want it to be the same performance.  So, I’m just trying to figure out if I just do the first bounce and then essentially erase all the Logic multi track subs and start over, or if I just switch the kits in EZD3 and the midi track will play the new kit and bounce those sounds onto the existing sub tracks…

Whatever makes most sense to you. Either way works. I would chose the later and simply back-up the EZD3 preset before changing it incase you wanted to go back to it.

What you can also do is create a project alternative in Logic and change your EZD3 preset in the alternate project without disturbing your original project. This way you can flip back and forth between the two without messing with either preset.
