Multi-channel to Render?

So, up until now…I’ve just mixed in SD3 and then tweaked as a straight stereo channel. (no routing setup) I’d like to move into mixing in my DAW…so I just learned how to set up a multichannel folder. Now, with my previous approach…I’d eventually just Render/Print the stereo track with FX to save on processing power.

#1) Is there any reason for me to render/print each channel…or should I (in my DAW) just apply track FX as needed and just render a stereo-pair when I’m ready?

No rules really. Whatever suits you. I have done many tracks within SD3 but I have also set up multi outs so they appear in my daw and rendered them using my daw effects.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

The only one who can really answer this is you. I had my reasons in the past for doing this, one of them being using a not so great drum library before SD3 and found myself doing too much fix it in the mix.

These days, I don’t do much rendering of drum tracks comer unless I need them for some sort of special effect. As far as drum mixes themselves go, I have found that SD3 is more than capable of doing most of the heavy lifting, with the end results feeding into one or a combination of UAD plug-ins, including a Neve 33609 and/or Studer A800 (my weapons of choice but never limited to those).
