Good morning all. When I first started with SD3, I loaded the software to my internal HD on my MacBook Pro, High Sierra 10.13.3.
3.1 GHz Intel Core i7,
16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
I loaded the “Basic Sound library Part 1”, and the “Room Mics Part 2”, then the disk was full. I want to move Parts 1 and 2 to the Ext. SSD, delete them from my internal to free it up, point SD3 to the Ext.SSD (I don’t know how to do that either), and then continue downloading the remaining parts.
The Ext. SSD also is Thunderbolt 2. I will be connecting using the Thunderbolt 2 connection for speed for the downloads but when using SD3, I will be using the USB3 port. I only have (2) Thunderbolt 2 ports and when I’m running my DAW and other stuff, I will need those.
Please advise as to how to do this. Thank you.
I just encountered a similar situation w SD3 and the Progressive sound library from SD2 that came on a flash drive. I have all my SD drums on an external SSD. But my office system is lean, and I use for late night sketches with SD3 and only EZ 2 expansions. What you need to do is go to settings in SD3: and without a set selected, add the new location. I’m writing from my iPad mobile so pls forgive sloppy info or inaccuracies, since I’m not at the desk looking — this is from memory but I think it’s close
You should prob first copy your sounds from their current location, and then (after successfully linking to new location) visible in the Toontrack Download Mgr then delete the old. Also, SD3 allows for two locations for sounds, a primary and a secondary, which is handy. You’ll add your new SSD.
I was able to drill down and select the “sounds” folder on my Flash drive, and “open.” I’ll be going your route for all sounds next, then I can install all my SD2 and 3 sounds. Note, in the Toontrack PM see the tab to show / hide info which will enable you to see locations— and change them.
if you run into an authorization error, use the PM to easily change a system, because two is the max. Also, “Settings” in SD3 has two ways to access. Hope this helps.

Thanked by: VeedgeOk thank you Steven. I need to know exactly where and how to transfer over the sound library and room mics specifically. I’m not understanding.
Got to here. I need a clear path like, “click here then do this,” and so forth. I’m flying’ by the seat of my Roc n Soc. I’m a novice here. Thanks in advance.
Sorry, I did this many months ago, in my studio, and the Sound Library was ” Progressive Foundry” on a USB flash drive, prior to SD3. At that time, there was not the detail of mic locations, however, I have seen these in the Toontrack PM portal app, in each download’s info, where there are individual DL files for sounds, MIDI and settings. I’m pretty sure the latter contains the mics, but you should check, as I’m a user and not an expert. Not quite sure. I would first look in the PM App’s and Settings for these locations, which are clearly available, and allow you to move, or add an alt location. I assume you’re using this app. Then you can look in Settings in SD3. I am unable to offer more guidance (I’m only a bass player) or give you a step by step with such specificity, so you may want to wrote support, have a look, or wait for more expert info here on the forum. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanked by: VeedgeStart by copying the sounds folder and letting Product Manager know where the sounds are:
Now you need to set the path so Superior Drummer 3 knows where the sounds are:
After you have checked that the library works from the external drive, you can remove the folder SL-SuperiorDrummer3 from the internal drive
I hope you can follow my guide 🙂

Thanked by: VeedgeThank you Henrik. I’m at work so I’ll be getting to this later on today. The instructions look great. Thanks also for the attention to detail. I’ll let you know how I make out. As always, a pleasure.

Thanked by: Henrik EkblomHenrik, I was unable to get to this yesterday because of work. I hope to get to it in a few hours. I just have one question before I get started. When I copy the SL folder over to the external drive, does that contain parts 1 and 2? In other words, once I have done that and have deleted the SL folder on my internal drive, will I then be able to start downloading parts 3 through bleed?
Hi,
once you have confirmed that the library loads in SD3 from the external drive and deleted the files on the internal drive, as per Henrik’s instructions above, you can add the other library parts via the Product Manager.

Thanked by: Veedge and Henrik EkblomTo be clear, I downloaded and installed part 2 to the internal drive too. So, do I have to move it too using the PM?

No, the PM knows where the folder for the sound library installation is (since you have already told it once using “Set Path”)
You will only have to copy the OBW files from the SL-SuperiorDrummer3/Sound folder from the internal drive to the same folder on your external drive (the OBW files are the actual sounds).
When you download and install the rest of the library (part 3, 4, and 5) they should be installed directly to your external drive, so you don’t have to manually copy the files.

Thanked by: VeedgeSo what you are saying is, if I understand correctly, that when I copy the SL folder, everything I’ve downloaded and installed so far including part 2, will copy to the external drive? Can you send me a picture of the OBW files. I’m not certain what I am looking for.
Thank you.
Ok Henrik, the process seems to be going smoothly. Is this the folder I should delete?
Veedge, that is not the folder to delete. There is no ‘Sounds folder in there.
If you Default installed the first parts, they are more likely to be installed in the ‘{Mac HD}/Library/Application Support/Superior Drummer/’ path.
I have my library already on an external drive but the contents would look like this screen shot.

John
