I have all my toontrack products on an ssd, that’s showing signs of quitting on me.
I need to replace it asap.
Until I get that sorted, I’ll have to temporarily use a regular hard drive, as it’s my only option atm.
So I need to move everything to the other drive.
I’ve successfully moved everything, except for all superior drummer 3 products.
They can’t be moved, because of the problems with the ssd.
So what’s the best way to get all those sd3 products onto the other drive?
I’ve already tried “change path” and “add alternative library path and it doesn’t work.
Says “invalid library”.
Tried it from both the product manager and from superior drummer 3.
When you say SD3 products what exactly are you talking about? The program itself, the core library or what? As far as the core library it looks like you’ll have to be doing a complete library download and install. To quote Metallica: sad but true.
As far as the ssd what signs are you seeing that the drive is failing? I ask because it may not be the drive itself. How is the drive connected to your computer and how is it powered? If bus powered it could well be the computer bus power itself. Have you tried changing the interconnect cables? They can fail without warning. I’ve had cables fail just by sitting and getting used but not moved. Just had a monitor display cable fail just like that.

Ok, I’m talking about:
Core library.
Fields of rock.
Hitmaker.
Rock foundry.
I already have everything in a toontrack download folder, but I’m not sure how to manually install those.
There are 5 different installation folders for the core library and a couple of installation files.
I’m thinking it’s probably my best option, to uninstall all sd3 produckts and do a reinstall?
Once they’re all uninstalled, it shouldn’t be a problem reinstalling them on the other drive?
I started noticing it a few days ago, working in cubase.
I have ezdrummer 3 in a project.
All of a sudden the drums wouldn’t load.
I tried starting superior drummer and same thing.
Plus cubase crashed.
Restarted my pc and tried again.
Same thing happened.
Restarted again and now the ssd was gone .
Restrarted again and it was back again.
Tried to scan it for bad clusters, but it stopped after a couple of minutes, saying there wasn’t enough free space to relocate the bad clusters.
Cleared space, but that made no difference.
I’m not great with pc hardware, so I had it built for me by someone I trust.
So sorry, but I can’t really answer those questions.
I haven’t changed any cables.
I don’t have any others to check with.
Tried to move the files from the ssd, to another drive, but that won’t work and here we are.
Do the install from the Product Manager and when it asks you where to install point it to the drive you want to use. I really wish you could at least answer how the ssd is connected and how it’s powered as that might be what’s causing your problems. You really need to get conversant with your computer hardware as often the problem might not be what seems obvious.

You mean those “change path”, or “add alternative library path” options in the product manager?
I’ve already tried that several times and it won’t work.
“invalid library”.
Tried it from both the product manager and from superior drummer 3.
Or do you mean I should uninstall my sd3 products first and then reinstall them?

There’s no need to uninstall if you’re installing to another drive but you could do that and see what happens.

How can I install to another drive, without first uninstalling?
There are no such options available, except for the ones i’ve mentioned and they’re not working, because of the problems I’m having with the ssd (or whatever it is).

You not knowing anything substantive about your computer isn’t helping. That being said follow these steps: open the Product Manager. This is for part one of the core library but the other parts should be the same. Go to the section labeled ‘Superior Drummer 3 Library Part 1 – Basic Sound Library. Then click on ;show details’. Then in the window that opens just below that click on the ‘installation info’ tab then click on the three horizontal lines that has a down arrow on the right hand side and you should have an entry that says ‘change path’. You should be able to change the installation path there.
I don’t see that doing an uninstall/reinstall would work because you might get the same ‘invalid library’ message.
I just remembered something – make sure you are running in admin mode on your computer.

Seriously Jack, berating the OP isn’t helping either.
YES, you can install into a new location via the Product Manager, seeing as you are unable to drag your library from your SSD. Click on the “SHOW DETAILS” link in your product and you will get something similar to the screenshot below.
Where you see the arrow pointing to the dropdown, you can do all of your re-installation to a new location (select the location in the installer). Note that you must have the library downloaded prior to installing. However, that’s all you need to do. Start there.

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanOn PC.. Any drive that disappears on startup, and then shows up on a different startup… back and forth. I stop using it immediately. It will go away forever soon. If it’s a mission critical HD, wait until the replacement shows up before putting anymore use on it and then recover your info if needed.
If anything is irreplaceable on that drive, stop now. Literally unplug it. Grab a screwdriver if you have to, open the PC, and detach the power cable.

The thing is we don’t even know how the drive is connected or how it’s powered. If it’s bus powered that could be the issue. Could even be a cable. We just don’t know. Like I said I’ve had cables fail all on their own. I’m not saying that it’s not the drive. Some basic troubleshooting on the hardware side would help. My first thought would be a new cable if it’s an external drive. It could even be something as simple as dirty contacts on a cable.

Who cares, really. The OP wants to install the libraries on a different drive because the drive that libraries are on isn’t working. If the OP has problems with the new drive, that is a different problem.
if someone asks for the time, they don’t expect to be told how to build a clock.

I agree, we don’t know. I’m not going to help him with a totally dead drive though. If he’s not backing up mission critical stuff, It’s my advice for a non-tech user. Just stop and deal with it. My TT and sample drives aren’t backed up, I’ll deal with that headache if it happens. My project drives are, so I can afford to toy around if problems arise.
When I buy budget drives that die quick, this is the behavior before they fail. Not having access to the entire drive when it does come up is a symptom as well. It gets scary fast, trying to backup a failing drive and the transfer fails 80% through. It’s just be-safe advice. I appreciate anyone being savvy, but it’s not a time to learn unless he can afford to lose the drive.
And I agree, if he has a tower and multiple drives, he could just unplug a healthy one, data and power, and see if it comes up. His symptoms remind me of past experiences and his responses encourages my advice.
On the other side of this. I’ve learned to go cheap with drives I can afford to lose, and always go name brand and reputation with mission critical drives.

Just trying to apply regular troubleshooting techniques that’s all.

I got that one from a VP I worked under when I was at BlackBerry 10 years ago. I’m sure he got the it from someone.
I should take some of these things I picked up and put some music behind them. 😀
