You know what would rock? A moon gel, zero ring, gaff tape option for snare drums. Anyone know of anything in the pipeline?
yeah I know. But it’d still be cool and perhaps a little more user friendly if an actual moon gel popped up And you could adjust its size And location on a snare drum
No argument that it could have its uses (I don’t care for any coolness factor). I’m just saying that this kind of emulation is available for those who want to shape their drum sounds now. Aside from these, I’ve also used the envelopes for “tea towel” type emulations.

This guy used tea towels for reducing the ring of drum heads.

You would adjust your decay to let the transient through and bring down the sustain to a level where you feel you have dampened enough of the ring. Adjust the Hold for how much dampened ring before fading out with the release. Adjust the release to taste (everything is done to taste) and add a curve to it.
Your envelope would resemble something similar to this picture (I may have exaggerated some of the points for clarity).

Thanked by: bobbyharlow and Bobby CampbellNow you got me thinking. How do I get a Tupperware version?
That’s easy: compress the crap out of it with a slow attack after applying the envelope. 😀
