I’m trying to run SD3 in Nuendo-10.2 on a Windows-10 PC.
When I try to set the audio outputs it offers only 16 Stereo outputs. Does SD3 not provide any Mono outputs?

In the meantime until an update comes out, I’m sure your $1500 DAW (which totally explains one’s noise being out of joint with Logic users) supports the ability to create a template in which you can route a stereo aux into dual mono channels, and can import as required. That way, you only need to set it up ONCE.

Thanked by: MartinIn addition to the mono outputs, SD3 is also lacking 1 output if one wishes to mix the entire mic collection exclusively in the DAW. Recently, I mixed a 7.1.4ch mix, and besides using the pan to get mono out, I had to combine two mics in the SD3 mixer (surround Fronts with Center) before sending out to a stereo channel. It’s not a huge deal, but it is odd that a program recorded with 33 microphones would not allow all the channels to be routed out of the program at once.
Maybe if mono outputs is too cumbersome to implement, it would be wise to increase the outs to 64 channels (32 stereo) thus allowing every microphone to be routed out without mixing in the program.

Thanked by: Henrik EkblomI would like to be able to use mono outputs aswell. Then it would just like be mixing real recorded drums in DAW.

Superior Drummer 3 version: 3.1.5
Operating system: macOS High Sierra (10.13)
You can do that right now by splitting your stereo outputs in your DAW and saving a template.

The trick where you use hard panning to get mono tracks out of SD3 seems to be entirely impossible in Studio One, for what it’s worth.
I’ve used that workflow happily in Cakewalk for years but Studio One seems to be unable to split a stereo input to two separate mono tracks. I badly wish mono outputs were a thing in SD3, I’m losing my mind over here.
Though Addictive Drums is not in the same class feature-wise, I wish SD3 would take a couple of cues from it; linked MIDI in/out mapping, and mono outs.
Supposedly, Studio One doesn’t do mono multi-outs from VIs. Yet the mono outputs from the AD2 VI are mono in S1. Copy that code TT!

I’m in the same boat trying to wrap my head around this mono vs stereo thing.
I use Cubase, so I was able to use the advanced feature, I know have 32 mono outputs, but it’s a bit of mess to be honest.
I now have to reconstruct and understand what mic is a duplicate or not, and what is supposed to be stereo.
By the way, why the default 16 stereo channels output is not ideal?
When the kick comes out of 1/2 in stereo, panned centered, is there any difference vs a mono kick?
What I’m realising is that it’s all or nothing it seems.
If I want mono outputs, I cannot use the busses that are in SD3 presets, so It seems only the default raw sound settings make sense for mono output.
As when using a preset, it’s nearly impossible to go out mono output while preserving the sound of the presests.
Is that correct?
It would be unrealistic to assume the sound would not be altered when using any multi-out setting when a preset has bus processing on it. In this case, the only reason to use multi-outs would be to apply your own processing.

No, a Mono source will still be Mono if it is routed to a Stereo channel.

Seems like this may not ever happen? Looking back at 2019 on the original request…
Would love mono outputs, using Pro Tools. I dislike having to hard pan everything in the SD3 mixer to aux inputs, and I’m also stuck with my stereo instrument track having two kick mics on it (one on the left and one on the right). Just a really weird setup, it’d be nice to have this cleaned up…
Might as well chime in that this would be great. My drop in the bucket towards getting this fixed.
Hi,
I wouldn’t say there is something that needs to be “fixed”.
The plug-in needs to tell the host how its outputs are configured upon scanning/loading, i.e. nothing that can be changed on-the-fly.
If, instead of the 16 Stereo channels broadcasted to the host, were a set number of Mono outputs as well, how would you propose they would be distributed? 10 Stereo + 12 Mono channels? 6 Stereo + 20 Mono channels?
Since no SDX or EZX has exactly the same setup in terms of microphones, having a set number of Mono outputs would be more limiting and we would see posts with questions like: “How do I combine 2 Mono outputs to a Stereo output?”
If memory serves me, in the very early days, with the first Superior Drummer plug-in, this became very clear when the second library was released (the 1st iteration of Custom & Vintage), since you had to load the plug-in and re-configure, close it and re-start your host and re-scan the plug-in.
The best way is as user Jord suggests; to set up a Template in your host and with Project files in SD3.
Regarding the Pro Tools routing and Kicks in the post above: you do not need to have your Kick channel(s) routed to output 1/2. You can have any Stereo microphone output on the Stereo Instrument Track where SD3 is inserted, e.g. the AMB.
