I’m trying to run SD3 in Nuendo-10.2 on a Windows-10 PC.
When I try to set the audio outputs it offers only 16 Stereo outputs. Does SD3 not provide any Mono outputs?

Check in Settings > Advanced. Can you turn on mono outputs there?

Hi,
in SD3 you have for ex. output1/2, output3/4 which are 2 stereo outputs. You can set the pan of output1/2 to 100% left and the pan of output3/4 to 100% right.
In the audio setting: Out channels:
Output(L)1: Output 1
Output(R)1: Output 2
Output(L)2: Output 1
Output(R)2: Output 2
and so on…
So you have Mono-Channels 🙂
I use a Tascam US 20×20 with 10 line out channels and I’m routing 5 Channels as Monochanels from SD3 to our mixer.
To Olof:
No. There is a [Cubase Only] setting that appears to offer 32 mono outputs only, but this is inactive.
We need a range of Stereo and Mono outputs – like BFD2/BFD3 has.

That is unbelievable! This is the 21st Century.
What you are suggesting is a way too fiddly and complicated workaround.
Mixing is complicated enough these days without having to mess around with panning things left and right just to get mono channels as if it was still 1980.
If I had even imagined that this would be the case we would not have bought the software.
What a mess!

Yes, you’re right. But I found no other solution to get seperate mono outputs. In my case I have the drumset on 5 outputs: Kick, Snare, Toms, Hihat and overhat.

I need (most of the time) 2x Mono for Kick, 2 or 3x Mono for Snare, 1x Mono for Hi-Hat, 1x Stereo for Percussion, 1 x Stereo for Toms, 1 x Stereo for Cymbols, 1 x Stereo for Ambience, 1 x Stereo for Overheads, 1 x Stereo for Room. This is something that BFD2/3 handles with ease. I was hoping to move away from BFD.

Sorry to tell you this, but dual mono is actually the BEST results to get a true stereo output. Not only are you getting your spread, but are getting your placement as well. Stereo pan pots are really nothing more than a balance control. This is one thing Pro Tools complain about other DAWs when they lack dual mono capabilities. You at least have a way to extract 32 mono channels. The CoreAudio standard on a Mac only allows for 16 channels, maximum. Thus, we need to be more inventive in Logic Pro X to get 32 mono channels.
The only thing I can say about BFD being able to handle this is… BFD! I migrated from BFD to SD3 for better and more creative reasons. Sorry so say, but your idea of stereo channels are really more a throwback to the 70s.

No I don’t have a way to extract 32 mono channels. It doesn’t work. I don’t use Cubase.
As I said, I was hoping to move away from BFD2/3, but don’t think that losing the mono/stereo output facilities I currently have in BFD2/3 by moving to SD3 is a very creative thing to do.
The very best option would be for SD3 to allow users to freely configure, or at least, select mono and stereo outputs. This would keep everyone happy and provide a very professional solution.

@AsaP you’ll find that as great as SD3 is, there are some very odd things about it if you’ve gotten used to some other drum plugins.
I’ve convinced myself I only need 16 channels, so converting all but 2-3 of them to mono in Logic wasn’t the worst thing. The suggested work around was too long winded for me.
I agree with you. The absence of mono outputs is at best odd.

Sorry, but it seems that you’re more unwilling to employ a little creativity, which is somewhat a requirement in the audio engineering and production realm. So what if you have to route a stereo channel into two aux channels? We’ve been doing this in Logic since 2008. Yes, it’s not the greatest solution, but no, it’s not all that arduous considering that I’ve only needed to do it once and saved a template.
Configurability is often a limitation of the plug-in spec that it is dealing with, such as what CoreAudio deals with. Many of them, such as BFD2/3, require you to register your outputs in advance (note that BFD only gives you so many mono and stereo channels, and you cannot change that either). Using that as a show stopper in SD3 is rather flimsy. That’s coming from a 12-year BFD user.

You are the only person I’ve come across these days that uses Logic. It must be cold out there.
Weren’t you a big BFD fanboy for a long time?
I just think that ToonTracks could do better with SD3. The current version is not quite good enough in the current world, and they risk losing their edge.
Peace and Love.

If I’m the only Logic user you’ve come across, then you really don’t get out much, let alone the know what a fanboy is. Or do you just use that term when you really don’t have anything relevant to add?
Perhaps if you really did your homework, you would have seen me consistently complain at how bad their libraries were recorded. The “London Sessions” aka BFD2 libraries were nothing but bombastic noise. Were it not for my good friend, Rail Jon Rogut and his expansion packs, along with John Emrich’s packs, I probably would have jumped ship long ago. BFD3 libraries were better but whatever they did to Schep’s recordings, it didn’t sound that good. And I was on the beta team testing it complaining. Combine all that with the fact that their effects are second rate and their recent updates are nothing short of disaster.
But you’re worried about outputs being a risk of losing SD3’s edge?
Considering how amazingly well SD3’s libraries are recorded, along with how well featured it is with all of their effects and routing, I don’t see your perceived risk.
Peace and love!

I agree that this would improve SD3! We will continue to look into it, and if we had unlimited time and resources it would already have been fixed – unfortunately we don’t have that. Thanks for the feedback, and the patience!

Hi Henrik,
Thanks for commenting. In the meantime, would it be possible to make the [Cubase Only] 32 Mono track option function for Cubase AND Nuendo? They are essentially the same program. I’m guessing that SD3 is currently able to detect if Cubase is the host DAW. This would at least give me (and other Nuendo users) the possibility to run SD3 in either Stereo or Mono mode. Or am I missing a setting somewhere?
