Hi
Is it possible to use chord suggester to get Mixolydian and Dorian chord progressions ?
Thanks
It’s not possible to get all chords generated in scales or modes, but I’ll take a note of it as a feature request 🙂
You can add a few chords to the song track that are in a scale/mode and use the suggested chords to continue the chord progression. They should match, and some in each column may be from the scale/mode you use.

While at it, I’d like to add a modal request; the Phrygian mode. So popular in film scoring these days… Here is what ChatGPT has to say about it 😃
The Phrygian musical mode, an enchanting and evocative melodic framework, has captivated musicians and listeners throughout history. Originating in ancient Greece, it derived its name from the region of Phrygia, which is believed to be its place of origin. The Phrygian mode is characterized by its distinctive and rich tonal qualities, which evoke a sense of mystery, passion, and intensity.
In Western music, the Phrygian mode is often associated with a minor tonality due to its unique intervallic structure. It is built upon a tonic note, followed by a minor second interval, creating a compelling and introspective foundation. This minor second infuses the mode with an alluring tension, leading to a sense of yearning and emotional depth.
The Phrygian mode’s captivating allure lies in its ability to evoke a wide range of emotions and musical expressions. Its inherent darkness and intensity lend themselves particularly well to conveying dramatic and introspective themes. When employed skillfully, this mode can transport listeners to ancient lands, arousing a sense of mystique and adventure.
Throughout history, the Phrygian mode has found a place in various musical genres, ranging from classical compositions to jazz, flamenco, and even modern popular music. Its unique tonality has inspired countless musicians to craft melodies and harmonies that capture the essence of longing, passion, and introspection.
Whether delicately woven into a poignant melody or unleashed in a fiery and passionate improvisation, the Phrygian mode holds the power to ignite emotions and create musical landscapes that resonate deeply with the human soul. Its distinct tonal characteristics continue to captivate audiences and remind us of the boundless expressive possibilities found within the realm of music.
In conclusion, the Phrygian mode stands as a testament to the transformative power of music, transporting us to realms of mystery and emotional depth. Its dark allure and unique tonality have allowed it to endure through the ages, inspiring musicians and stirring the hearts of listeners. As we immerse ourselves in the melodies and harmonies it offers, we embark on a journey of introspection, passion, and artistic expression.
I have kind of comparable question to support.
I wonder if its still not possible to change the scale to aynthing else apart from major or minor ?
I was not aware of this and it kind of drives me mad while trying to get a chordprogression in the scale I have chosen in the songwriting scales windows or suggest a chord progression in that style…
“Smartest” comment on this would be that the workflow is totally broken…..
For me this two functions without the option to make a track in that scale is simply useless.
And with the above mentioned mixolydian and dorian, or my favourite lydian where I get stuck are not that otherwoldly moods.
So its kind of the impression for me that there are some nice looking addons but general needed work under the hood (change scale/mood to at least the most common ones) has still not be done…..
Yes, that video was the CAUSE of my question:
How to get that scale (lydian) to your TRACK (or to use the scale in the chord suggestion window), there it is only possible to set minor/major scale.
Maybe I oversee something obvious but I have seen that video (and the other ones out there) at least a half a dozen times but they dont show how to set G lydian (as example) in the maintrack window so to use with the grooves, chord suggestions and so on.
And like it was already asked as start of the topic for dorin/mixolydian.
I think it’s more of a function of taking the chords that fit the mode you want and leaving it just showing Ionian (or Aolian).

Ok, so to sum it up: still not possible to change main/track scale to anything apart from minor/major.
It leaves me a little speechless to be honest in 2023 with lots of years for making the update to Ezkeys 2. I dont know ANY comparable app that is NOT able to set MAIN scale simply to Dorian, mixolydian, lydian…..and then lets work the real magic of these tools in Ezkeys 2 on it……
So you can use Ezkeys 2 for anything major/minor and have to look somewhere else for anything thats not minor/major…..or get broken in your workflow (at least thats the way it works for me).
Just to be clear: Ezkeys 2 is still a great tool but…..I simply cant understand this general restriction, not in 2023…..
But thats the way it is it seems, still feels hard to believe….
One little addon: when buying this upgrade in the period before it was out I have not even THOUGHT about it cause for me it was simply obvious that this will work.
Still worth the upgrade price of course, I really dont want to maket the product bad, please dont get me wrong, its great, but still this makes me feeling of “unreal”…..
Wonder if you at least get my astonishment or if we kind of living in total different (musical) worlds…..

Thanked by: Rajni and mvsburg1964Well, the only thing I can add is echoing what Hendrik said above. That Toontrack will make note of the feature request.
On a personal note, I’ll add this. And keep in mind that this is from a dumb guitar player for the last 35 years and not from a pure music theory point of view (and I’m sure this isn’t groundbreaking for you);
I break all the modes down into “major” or “minor” sounding based on how they feel. Major (Ionian, Lydian, and Mixolydian) and Minor (Aeolian, Dorian, Phrygian, and Locrian).
For example: d minor, a minor, C Major, G Major. Dorian of course. Sounds minor- like to me. I can throw these chords into EZkeys2 easily enough (like in the video above).
On a side note, I don’t get astonished by people anymore. I’ve worked for Toontrack for 15 years and it just doesn’t astonish me what one user thinks is a must have feature where another will think it’s extraneous or complicated. I’m sure Toontrack walks that line with every product release.

Thanked by: BradThanks a lot for this answer, I think now I understand and this is absolutely understandeable, your starting point and point of view to devellop this absolutely great app :-).
Still, maybe someday….. 🙂
Great to see I dont missunderstood your question and I am not alone with this (request ?)… 🙂
But I can see Scotts point of view now too….
I am loving EK2, and I’m actually using it as intended with great success, unlike EK1.
That said, we should absolutely be able to set the scale on the Suggest Chord page. And we should be able to set all kinds of scales…Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor, Major and Minor Pentatonic, Diminished, Whole Tone…etc etc.
Luckily I am well versed in harmony and chord construction, so I can add what I need manually. I can also manipulate the Chord Wheel thing in the song track pretty well which helps. But I’m no piano player, and exploring the chords which are derived from all the above scales is not easy for me in “real time”.
Please add these scales (and more) to a future update
