Superior Drummer 3 Help

First off I love superior drummer to death and think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Secondly, I’m trying to figure out why it does thins thing it does. So i made a kit for my metal stuff which i am perfectly happy with (beyond happy actually). In this kit (i use ableton live 11.3.11) Iin the mixer take the mic tracks and take say the 3 kick tracks and route them to bus 1, the snre tracks bus 2 hi hat bus 3 tom1 bus 4, you get the picture, then in the busses, i take bus 1 and output that to output 3/4, bus 2 output 5/6, etc which then in ableton i select the source superior drummer 3 on all these drum tracks ten inputs 3/4 for one track, 5/6 for the next/etc. to e able to use ableton to mix track by track/use all it’s plug in’s etc., this works aweome and i love it.

However, then i try messing around with non metal kits and though the kits sound great i go into the mixer and it’s all different, the kick mic tracks don’t give bus1/2/3/4/etc. as an option, it just says “kick” where it woould normally say “bus 1”, “snare” where it would normally say “bus 2″etc. and for the output tracks, there is only ONE track and it just has output 1/2 selected.

I do not see any way to change “kick” to “Bus 1”, etc. nor do i see a way to add tracks to it, like say more audio output tracks, and when I messedaround with it last night, I with thre tracks armed in ableton, saw the meters going up and down to the audio, but heard nothing, neither from my UA apollo twin duo audio interface nor my axe fx iii mk ii which i made an aggregate audio interface with in audio MIDI setup on my mac (and works great for everything else), but it doesn’t matter if i even just select the UA apollo alone either, i see the audio bouncing around in the track meters but hear nothing? I do not get it.

Does anyone understand how to deal with the mixer and add/remove traks and route them how i want so i can have the set of mic tracks, then the set of bus tracks i route the mic tracks tothen the set of audio output tracks i route the bus tracks to and then route those tracks to ableton tracks and record all separate tracks that way into ableton? It’s weird i even have to ask this as that is how my one metal template kit is set upand it works like that great, but anything with any kind of complex at all routing in the superior drummer mixer does not allow me to do this and i’m trying to figure out why and how to overcome this?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

when you route something to a Bus, a fader for that Bus pops up in the Mixer.
You can double-click that fader name to rename it to something else, e.g. ‘Kick’ or ‘Snare’. So, if I rename my ‘Bus 1’ to ‘Kick’, it’s still the same Bus, just with a more friendly name.

The same goes for outputs; if I route a fader (Mic or Bus fader) to an output other than Output 1-2, this output gets a new fader in the mixer. These output faders can also be double-clicked to change their name. The still have the same numbering for connecting to your DAW, though.

If you wish to see all Bus and output faders, even if all do not have anything routed to the, there is an ‘Edit Visibility’ button at the top of the mixer.

    BR,

Yea I tried a couple other things to like in one indie rock track, didn’t like the drums and had made a bunch of templates with different drum kits all mapped out mix-routing wise to send the multiple mic’s on one drum (say the kick, or the snare) to one bus and that bus out to one output, starting with 3/4, but even that got messed up in ways i don’t understand that had me just starting from scratch and building a new kid and re-routing it all in SD3/ableton. I wish it was more self explanatory to create and remove and route tracks in SD3 , like it is in a DAW.

I get that you can rename the tracks bak from say Kik to “Bus 1”, but I just tried setting up the track touring in one of my non-metal tracks/templates, that at one point appeared to work fine hence me making a template out of it, but the screenshots all labeled “NotWorking1-4.png” are this track and even though it shows audio coming through the mixer in SD3 and Ableton, all that’s sudible is a kick drum and  bit of one of the overheads, no snare, nothing, i have no idea why.

I tried uploading the screenshots here but they were too big so i uploaded them to imgur and grabbed links to them instead. the “Not Working” ones self explanatorily are the non-metal kit one that i can only hear the kick and some overhead with, and the ones that say “Working” are one with ones of the metal kit presets where everything is working beautifully as i want it to, all the tracks are routed correctly and audible and show up in ableton as they should and i can solo track by track in ableton and hear what i expect to hear and such. I don’t get it.and in the not working one i noticed Out 26/27 are just gone for some reason i cannot explain?

I don’t have Ableton, but in Logic, you would have to have an aux channel within a multi-out instrument corresponding to the bus output channel in SD3. Do you have all of the channels set up in Ableton? It’s hard to tell from your screenshots. Perhaps, ZIP up your Ableton project and post it in the thread for those with Ableton to check out. Perhaps posting the SD3 project file may not hurt either.
