I assume each instance of EZ-Drummer will simply load the same set of samples multiple times?
Is this limitation part of Superior drummer?

    No,
You can unload the cymbals on your first instance.
and then only load the cymbals on the second so Ram usage would be no larger at all.

And SD2 does easily get past thi as its mixer lets you adjust the bleed of all elements in your overheads plus you can simply highlight the cymbal or cymbals or even articulation and just turn them up.

    Thanks “Juicy”

That’s just saved me a whole load of time and grief.

Would you happen to know if Superior drummer has disk streaming?

Not sure but it has this thing called Cache mode but im sure shes all about RAM baby.!

No, Superior Drummer 2 doesn’t use disk streaming. All samples are loaded into RAM. There are memory saving features as juicy pointed out (cache mode, lower layers limit, unload unused articulations, less bleeds, etc).

    Hi Scott

    Thank you for your reply.

Hopefully ToonTrack might consider disk streaming as a future option?
5-6 gig is a lot of memory to tie up just for drums.
Whilst I can see it would be a viable option in a fixed studio setting, it certainly wouldn’t suit a mobile set-up.

Also, with SSD’s, I found the number of voices I could stream, for example from Kontakt, jumped from ~250 to over 1000.
(As compared to the previous 7200 disk)

My present laptop can’t physically use more than 4 gig of memory, so the SSD has given it an extended shelf life.

No, I can almost guarantee Toontrack won’t switch to disc streaming given the modern movement to 64-bit OSs and mega RAM systems not to mention their philosophy since the DFHS days.

Having said that, I use an ancient Win XP P4 computer with 2GB of RAM in my studio without issues. I use the techniques referred to above and bounce in S2 at mix time. As for live use, 4 GB of RAM is plenty for setting up a live kit. You don’t need to use the umteen room channels and all bleeds in a live situation.

How do I load only the cymbals persay in one instance of ezdrummer and the rest in another instance? How do you load only what you want in a particular instance of ezdrummer?

Select ‘None’ for the kit pieces you don’t want loading in each instance.

So, load one instance with all cymbals set to ‘None’ but all drums loaded. Then, load the second instance with all drums set to ‘None’ and all cymbals loaded.
