Hello Toontrack
I recently purchased Custom & Vintage SDX for my SD3 which I use as a plug-in inside Studio One 3 DAW. When exploring the C&V SDX I saw that the first five of the Peter Henderson Factory Sets did not load – the remaining four, from Damped to Nobel & Cooley do load. My hard drives are healthy, I am up to date with all software and my SD3 library works fine. So my first port of call was the Toontrack forum. After checking the forum I read that DL White had posted a similar issue on 25 May 2018 and Toontrack had replied. I’m in complete agreement with DL White’s response when John at Toontrack explained why the issue exists. It’s good that Toontrack has acknowledged this compatibility problem, so I too look forward to being notified when this issue is resolved.
Thanks.

Thanked by: pawl kingThese SDX’s were designed for Superior Drummer 2 and leverage some of the sounds from the core-library. To use these, you could purchase the NY vol. 1 SDX or get an SD2 license somewhere. I think Toontrack should lower the price of the NY vol 1 permanently.

Thanked by: music manHello gearnerd,
Thank you for the info. I completely forgot I posted the issue – it’s been so long ago. Since my post I purchased NY Vol.1 but not for any reason related to your post. Completely ignorant on how NY Vol.1 relates to Custom & Vintage to solve my issue but I just opened Custom & Vintage in SD3 and now all the Henderson Sets load fine… If simply purchasing that has solved the issue, that’s a lucky coincidence. Can you expand further on how that worked?
Today I also updated to latest SD3 plus basic Sound library as prompted in ToonTrack Product Manager, I take it that’s not related to now having access to all Henderson sets.

Thanked by: music manNew York Studios volume 1 is the core library for SD2, also known as Avatar, named after Avatar studio.
The only relation it has to the custom and vintage SDX is that a couple of the presets stack ambient channels from avatar. Avatar is only required if you wish to use those particular ambient stacked presets as is. However, it is not a direct requirement of the SDX itself. You are also able to replace the ambient channels with those of SD 3 core library or any SDX.

Thanked by: music man and pawl kingHi Jord
Thank you for your reply and explanation, much appreciated. Strange that Toontrack didn’t offer any such explanation when I first posted, seeing as they must know this.

Thanked by: music manIt’s not the first post regarding this particular situation, and I guarantee that it won’t be the last. 😀
like you, I bought NY Vol 1 on its own merits. However, the lack of it previously did not denigrate C&V in anyway.

Thanked by: music man and pawl kingHi jord
Interesting that you didn’t have an issue with the Henderson Sets before buying NY Vol.1. It bugged me that I could only open 4 out of 9 of them. So many potential compatibility issues with technology that it’s a blessing when everything goes smoothly from day to day.

Thanked by: music manThere’s a difference between “not having an issue“ and “the existence of an issue“.
I had the same pop up as everybody else. It just didn’t stop me from using this SDX. It’s a fantastic sounding pack for when you need drums recorded in a tight dry space. I believe it was also recorded on an REDD console, which to me is an added bonus. That is why I bought this SDX.
The main reason I bought New York Studios volume one (and two for that matter) was because I got volume 3 on an amazing no-brainer Black Friday deal (thank you Toontrack!) and loved both how Neil Dorfsman & Pat Thrall recorded the drums and how Nir Z played them. Having them on a couple of songs was like having Nir Z playing them.
