Enabling MIDI out in Superior Drummer 3 means that the MIDI played in SD3 will be sent out. You can, for example, have another drum sampler loaded in Cubase, have the MIDI in Superior Drummer 3 and enable MIDI Out to use the sounds from the other sampler…

So I have used the midi out function quite a few times. I find the SD3 bounce function to be very poor if you are trying to do drum replace on a track in you DAW that has been recorded free time do no tempo track.

what I do is do the drum replace in SD3 and have SD3 follow my DAW. I then enable midi out and create a midi track in my DAW with input from SD3 but with no output set. I record on that track while SD3 follows the DAW. This gives me a midi track in my DAW which is Cubase. I then change the output to SD3 and the midi will play in time. I then enable multi outputs in SD3 and assign the drums as required. Lastly I use Cubase to render the tracks to audio.

it all sounds long winded but it is quite quick really and works great.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Load S3 in your DAW. MIDI Out is not available when in Standalone.

    Hi

Im in Cubase 10 and wanna use 2pc of SD3’s.

I open a SD3 as a VST instrument track and enable the “midi out” on the general page.

I open a second SD3 on a new instrument track and set the input of the track from the first SD3 but nothing comes through to the second SD3.

Any ideas what im doin wrong?

So do you have any midi in the first instance? What are you trying to achieve?

I haven’t  tried to do what you are doing but I have sent midi from SD3 to to a new midi track in Cubase and recorded it no problem.

Seems like this was never answered. I have the same problem.

I have SD3 on a track. I send midi to the SD3. I want it to go “through” the SD3 and out to other tracks. This does not work.

I know I can set another track for the midi and then send it everywhere, but this is wack, another track? you on crack? get back, that is that, like I said, wack.

Yeah, I can’t seem to get a MIDI thru either. Very strange as MIDI thru is a basic 55 year old concept.

Yeah, I can’t seem to get a MIDI thru either. Very strange as MIDI thru is a basic 55 year old concept.

Which is even more strange considering that MIDI is only 42 years old.

This is a DAW functionality and not a software instrument one. Using a master MIDI track or creating custom MIDI routings within the DAW is not out of the ordinary. DAWs like Logic Pro 11 have the ability to do MIDI Thru capabilities straight from its track. However, if the MIDI track is the same throughout, using a track stack in Logic Pro 11 is not uncommon.

MIDI out within Superior Drummer (or any of the ToonTrack products) is handy for triggering other instruments from its timeline. However, it’s not meant to echo from source.
