What midi notes should I choose in TD-11 for my second crash?
I have this feeling that not all EZX’s support dual zones for secondary crashes.
Right now, my Cr1 has got 49 and 55, my new Cr2 57 and 57 (i.e. just one note) – but sometimes it seems 52 is available with an own sound, too.
In Americana, however, it triggers the Ride (like 51), in Nashville it triggers a fourth cymbal.
Only in Pop/Rock, both 57 and 52 trigger the second crash with different samples (like I want it to).
So, is there a general setting I should adjust my module to?
Or do I have to program individual drum maps in SD for all my EZX’s?
Note 57 will always give you a second crash as this is General MIDI standard. Note 52 will always be a cymbal but it may vary between libraries depending on the nature of the library. It may be a china in one library whilst a Ride articulation in another for example. The metal libraries tend to have more cymbals whilst the libraries that are more aimed at songwriting or jazz will have fewer different cymbals but the cymbals present may be sampled in more detail with different articulations available. As the needs of each library varies and with the limited number of notes available it is impossible to be absolutely consistent between them.
It is not generally recommended to change the notes in your module as this can cause confusion later down the line. To start with try using the Roland e-drum map available from the preset drop down menu in the mapping tab. If you then want to tweak and assign different cymbals etc. to different parts of your kit you can use the MIDI learn features and then save a MIDI preset. Try reading Sections 3.4 and 7 in the manual which go into detail.

Hi Damian! Thanks for the clarfication!
Am I right that not all cymbals answering to note 57 have a secondary sound? If they do, what note would that be?
Regarding the sections in the manual you mention, you’re talking about Superior drummer, right? So for EZdrummer, I could only change the settings in the module to address a secondary cymbal – which you don’t recommend…
