Midi mapping TD50 and TD30

Hey folks,

I just picked up a Roland TD50 kit for my studio, and my drummer has a TD30. What is the best way to go about setting up a midi map so that he can record files at home and send me the midi and have it trigger SD3 appropriately. Is it just as simple as setting the mapping to TD30 when he tracks, and to TD50 for anything tracked in my studio? Is there a better way to do this…maybe a custom mapping? I imagine if we use the preset mappings then there will be issues if we combine clips recorded from both kits.

So I have a td30 which uses all the trigger inputs and is where the toontrack preset doesn’t batch what I have. So I create my own preset based on my kit and if I send to someone else with SD3 I send them my preset as well. In this case if the person creates there own preset then they just need to give you it. It really is as simple as swapping presets for the td30 and td50.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Thanks for the reply! Is there a guide for creating your own preset mapping? I’d like to ensure that all the articulations are mapped correctly…I realize that there will likely be a few more articulations available with the TD50, but want to make a preset with the most overlap possible.

 

Maybe the place to start is with the TD-50/30 midi implementation guides? Or if there are any online resources you can suggest I’d be super appreciative.

The presets already give you the right settings for snare hi hat and ride. You can also record hitting individual parts of the kit to find the notes and map them manually then save as a preset.
