When i drop a groove in instrument track in pro tools 12 and sd3 works fine.
But when i save and close the sessin and open it again, the midi files are grey and do not play with sd3.
When i load another instrument for example DB33 instead of sd3 the midi files are playing.
Now, when i load sd3 instead of DB33 all is fine.
What is that? How can i solve this problem?
So the MIDI files that are gray (when you open the project) are placed in a track in Pro Tools? This is strange, because Superior Drummer 3 (nor any other plugin) can’t change how the MIDI files look in Pro Tools. Can it be that Superior Drummer 3 plug-in is turned off in Pro Tools, rendering the MIDI files gray? Can the MIDI files be muted?

I’ve experienced this occasionally as well…only in Pro Tools. I have not experienced this in Logic, Mixbus32C or Cubase.
I’ve found the circumstance that Henrik refers to in his response to cause the symptoms that ‘optera’ describes.
Displaying the ‘Instrument View‘ column in either the Mix or the Edit window may reveal a ‘disconnected’ SuperiorDrummer3.
I’m not sure that I’ve found a clear cause for the disconnect but
it can usually be reconnected right there in the ‘Instrument View‘.
(As you’ve noted, removing & reinserting the plugin will usually also fix the disconnect as well.
However, you may lose any changes you’ve made within the SD3 plugin.)
Hi,
Yes…this happens to me, too in Pro Tools 12 with SD3.
After opening a session with SD3 instantiated on a stereo instrument track, I reassign the output of the SD3 instrument to channel 1 of the and the midi files become active (in color) again.
I don’t know why this happens….

I hope Toontrack fixed that problem soon.
It is no solution to reconnect the instrument every time I open a project!
And how I see it is a PT12/SD3 problem indipendently from OS.
_ PT 12.8.2×106
_ SD 3.0.3
_ Win 10 Enterprise 1709
Which version-complex makes no trouble? Anybody who have no problems with older versions or other version-complexes?

Not to point fingers, but I’m not so sure that this isn’t a Pro Tools issue.
As I noted above, I sometimes have the issue in PT12 but never have it in Logic Pro X, Cubase or Mixbus32C on the same machine.
Hi,
please report this to Avid.
I am a long time Pro Tools user myself and I see this issue with disconnected MIDI Outputs on Instrument Tracks pretty often and I see it at least as much or more with other VI manufacturers, so it’s not a Toontrack specific issue.

@John
I am not sure that this is a Pro Tools issue.
Ok, and when you have this issue pretty often, why don’t Y O U report it to Avid?
So, Y O U can tell us what is wrong and what Avid says!
Now, everything works fine, only SD3 makes problems in this case.
But why I have this problem since only SD3?
And everything is fine with SD2?
This is not my daily work to solve this problem.
SD3 do not work. And I want to have a SD3 that is working on every DAW.
Can Toontrack prove that this issue is a avid problem? I don’t thing so.

Well, to prove anything regarding software bugs is pretty hard, but other plugins does also has this problem in Pro Tools. Here’s a reddit thread about this:
