When I use the midi file templates in EZBass’s internal player/sequencer to play the bass engine, notes skip. When I export the MIDI files to a separate track and play it to EZBAss, notes skip. If I loop four bars notes skip in different places in every loop iteration. What’s going on?
I discovered the source of the problem, which is some kind of contention with another plugin.
The host is Bandlab version 2020.08 build 100. This is essentially the latest version of Sonar platinum. as per previous comment, the plugin was intermittently cutting out during MIDI playback.
I ran EZBass standalone without a problem, so I knew that the issue was somewhere inside Bandlab. I turned off every plugin on every track and buss; at that point EZBass ran perfectly, so I knew that one or more plugins was the problem. I turned on all the track plugins; all was well. I started turning on the buss plugins, and when I got to the buss that the bass track is assigned to, I discovered that an instance of Cakewalk’s CA-2A plugin (which is modeled on the Universal Audio LA-2A) was causing the intermittent outages on EZBass. I replaced that plugin with a different compressor plugin, and all is now well. It occurs to me that CA-2A might simply have been clipping on the input, and I’ll check that out. In the meantime, it looks like EZBass works as advertised if you don’t invite the wrong plugin to the party.
