Hi all,
I am trying to make sense of the note arrangement. I want to write a beat in my DAW using piano roll view, but it is murder fishing for the sounds on the piano roll. In desperation I made an excel sheet and wrote them all out to figure it out.
I’m finding this hard to believe, and wondering what are peoples’ workarounds to having the parts midi notes so scattered.
Here are the snare hits, at least they are in the same octave:
snare | center | d1 | 38 |
snare | center alt | a0 | 33 |
snare | rimshot | e1 | 40 |
snare | sidestick | c#1 | 37 |
This crash is note 32 and its mute is 107 (?)
cymbal6 | crash | g#0 | 32 |
cymbal6 | mute | b6 | 107 |
Hats are all over the place:
hat | closed edge | a#-1 | 22 |
hat | closed tip | c#3 | 61 |
hat | tight edge | d3 | 62 |
hat | tight tip | d#3 | 63 |
hat | seq hits | f3 | 65 |
hat | open 1 | c0 | 24 |
hat | open 2 | c#0 | 25 |
hat | open 3 | d0 | 26 |
hat | open 4 | c3 | 60 |
hat | open pedal | b-1 | 23 |
hat | closed pedal | a-1 | 21 |
hat | trig | f#-1 | 18 |
hat | tiptrig | g#-1 | 20 |
How are people using their DAW to write beats using this? The beat would not make any sense to look at.
It is hard to imagine people sitting at their screen saying I need a cymbal mute, and having to go find it 4 octaves away from the cymbal, then zooming out to review and remembering what the scatter of events represents, with the rum kit parts notes fixed in a shuffled random layout.
I love the sounds though. Please let me know if I’m missing something. I have yet to be able to actually use this software after buying it and being excited how good it sounds in the demo, it’s kind of a disaster when you get down to actually write a beat.
Are people just using this for the canned loops? I hope not.
thanks
Hi,
MIDI Layout PDFs are included with every library via the Menu > About Sound Libraries.
Some years ago a user started a spreadsheet on Google Docs where he collected different libraries’ layouts

Maybe some of this helps?
