Is there an easy was to figure out how to map a cowbell from my first floor tom rim on my Alesis Strike Pro SE kit, through SD3? There is not a lot on this online and what is, is very confusing. I’d like to be able to change kits (also), and not have to re-map, as I am reading.
Everyone’s help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.
Hi Ron,
two ways of doing this.
First one: add and select the Cowbell in the SD3 interface, make sure it has got some MIDI note assigned to it by opening the MIDI Mapping Property Box. It should get one auto assigned when added, otherwise manually add one e.g. 127. In the same MIDI Mapping Property Box, click ‘MIDI In/E-Drums Settings’.
I guess you already have Enabled the Alesis Strike Pro Preset? In the ‘Show’ drop-down your added Cowbell will be displayed as ‘Instrument 1’. Select it and then click ‘Learn’. Hit your Floor Tom Rim and it should be re-mapped to your Cowbell. This can now be saved as your own MIDI Preset and recalled for another kit. However, if you aren’t using a Cowbell and apply this MIDI Preset, the Floor Tom Rim will still be remapped to #127 which normally would be a Snare articulation if my memory serves me right.
Second way of doing it: Check the note number for the Floor Tom Rim on the Drums page, should be #72, add your Cowbell and manually assign it to #72. Just use the Alesis Strike Pro MIDI Mapping Preset. You will have to save the Project for it all to “stick”.
