I just finished installing EZ Drummer 2 and now all of my EZX expansion packs no longer work. I’m unable to see EZ Drummer 2 in my plugin list in Cubase but the program will open in Standalone mode. I tried performing an upgrade on my Rock! expansion pack and was given an error saying that my library appeared to be damaged and I would have to re-install the full product before applying the update. I got the same error when trying to apply an update for another expansion pack as well. Here’s the error log that was created after trying the update for the Rock! kit.

When I first installed my EZX expansion packs, I did so on an external hard drive so the base path for the Rock! kit should be L:ToontrackEZDrummerEZX_Rock but it appears to me that after installing EZ Drummer 2, the system is trying to use the program path (which was forced to be used during install and no option was given as to where I wanted to put the actual sound library files) instead of the actual base path (L:ToontrackEZDrummer) for the expansion packs. I hope I’m not going to have to re-install all of my expansion packs again but it sure looks that way I tried to access the EZX expansion packs in Superior Drummer 2 as well, after applying the latest update for both SD2 and EZD2 but was unable to do so. The kits are listed, well, kinda, the names aren’t appearing correctly. And I get an error message that the path couldn’t be found, but when I try to update the path, I’m unable to do so as the expansion packs aren’t showing up in the “Library” section.
Also, if I try to open EZ Drummer 1 as a plugin in cubase, I get an error message that EZ Drummer sounds could not be found. I’ve included screenshots of that and also what I see when using SD2 within my Cubase session. I’m running Cubase 7.5.20 on a Win 7 64-bit machine and my Toontrack plugins are 64-bit as well.
I LOVE Toontrack but this upgrade experience has not gone smoothly
I wanted to post an update… I un-installed EZ Drummer 1 and 2 from my machine and then re-installed EZD 2, this time I was given the option to select where I wanted to put the sound library files so I chose the same location that I used when I originally installed EZD 1 (L:ToontrackEZDrummer). Now I’m able to see the expansion packs in both Superior Drummer 2 and EZD2 stand-alone version. However, I still don’t get an option for EZD2 in my Cubase plugins list, only the original EZD. And when I open it I get the same message as before, that it can’t locate the sound files. This is just for the Pop/Rock library. When I try viewing other expansion packs, the error message does not display and the kits do load up.
I also noticed that ALL of the EZX expansion packs are being listed in the kit drop-down menu, including the 3 that I do not own (Latin Percusion, Metal, and Vintage – see attached screenshot) but the names of those 3 are showing up as what I’m assuming is the expected folder path, as that’s how things were being displayed prior to my re-install efforts.
Almost there though, just need to get EZD2 to show up in my plug-in list and I’ll be good to go
One more update… Though Cubase is my primary DAW, I also have a copy of Reaper. I just opened it up to see if EZ Drummer 2 would show up in my plugins list. It did and it didn’t… I saw EZ Drummer in the list, but not EZ Drummer 2. When I created a new instrument track with EZ Drummer on it however, the plug-in interface actually displayed EZ Drummer 2. I was able to access all of my EZX expansion packs as well. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to be able to access my Superior Drummer libraries from within EZD2 or not, but if I am, then that feature is not working for me as I’m unable to see them. I have the latest updates for both EZD2 (2.0.1) and SD2 (2.4.0) installed.
While I had Reaper opened, I added an instrument track with SD2 on it. I was able to see my all of my EZX and SDX expansion packs, but when I tried to access the EZ Drummer Pop/Rock library, I got an error message that it couldn’t locate the sounds. So it seems that there is still some sort of communication issue between SD2 and EZD2 on my machine in regards to the newest libraries.
One final update for the night as I believe I’ve gotten the situation resolved now. After doing some searching through the forums I found some similar posts to mine which led me to make sure that I had completely removed all instances of the old ezdrummer.dll file. I ended up finding two versions of the file so I deleted them both, re-ran the update for EZDrummer 2 and voila! The plugin began to display the new interface in Cubase!
I also noticed that even though I had ran the 2.4.0 update for SD2, the version that I was seeing in Cubase was actually still 2.3.0. So I went searching and discovered 2 dll files for SD2. I removed them both and re-ran the 2.4.0 update for SD2 and then I was able to start seeing the EZD2 sound libraries in SD2.
So I think I’m all good now and fortunately didn’t have to re-install all of my EZX kits!
Glad to hear you sorted it out and you actually followed the steps I would’ve suggested with searching for duplicate .dll’s, deleting them and re-installing.
Please run the ‘Check for updates’ function in the EZdrummer 2 Help Menu to see if there are any updates for your EZX’s and MIDI packs available.

Thanks John. I updated all my EZX’s and MIDI packs last night too
LOVING the new features in EZD2, especially the tap 2 find feature. Man, that’s gonna save me SOOOO much time! Hope it makes it’s way into a future version of Superior Drummer down the line
