    Hi,

my advice is to refrain from upgrading your OS to Big Sur until all your hardware and software manufacturers have officially stated compatibility.

Full adoption by the music industry is often 4 to 6 months. Considering that this release can be considered a very major release, you are best to be patient.

Unless you enjoy suffering a thousand cuts from riding the bleeding edge…

I just got a warning email from another big music plug-in company warning and stressing to NOT update until notified for full compatibility.

I’m personally waiting till everything is fully compatible.

Compatibility with Big Sur may also serve a strong signal that it will be ARM ready.

Latest version of Catalina works great. It actually resolved a lot more problems that I had with Mojave. My only regret was not doing it sooner.

I have a new MBP that came pre-loaded with Catalina, and I wish I was still on Mojave. It’s not a disaster, but I’ve had more weird glitches and crashes than ever before.

I went back to Mojave after a couple of nightmarish Crappalina years… so I will never update to Big Slur.

Thanks John! Does that mean y’all will be telling us the coast is clear?

    Hi,

Any predictions as to how long it will take Toontrack to make SD3 compatible with Apple Silicon, Big Sur and Logic Pro 10.6?

    Kind Regards

I have updated to Big Sur and so far I haven‘t experienced any issues with Superior Drummer 3 and EZbass. Both are working perfectly fine in Logic Pro 10.6.

What I really would like to know is when (or if) Toontrack will release (or start working on) universal binary versions of their software with native support for Apple Silicon.

I would not take that as an all clear by any means. Most audio interface drivers that load by kext are likely to crash upon load, thus requiring some considerable re-engineering. I have also received a number of “do not upgrade” emails from various plug-in developers. There is definitely no rush to upgrade the operating system at this time. There’s no FOMO..

    Hi Sveje77,

Thanks for the heads up. Is it running because of Rosetta 2 where Apple are assisting to bridge the transition?

    Regards

    Rodney

I am a curious guy and have updated (haha)…… (not working on any important project at the moment) EZ-Bass, EZ-Drummer 2 and SD3 works fine in Garageband and Logic (all latest versions)

But, what I never understood was that the plugin manufacturers take so long for updates, they know that long before. (???)

    Greetings from Germany

Because Apple is always changing everything during beta testing. There is no point on updating based on a moving target. Otherwise, it is time wasted and money lost. Music industry professionals have known this for years, and is not in a rush to move to move to the latest and greatest. Only consumers are.
