Does anyone know if Superior Drummer 3 is supported in Mac OS Monterey? Monterey should be released sometime today, but I’m waiting to upgrade until I know that SD3 works okay with it.
Thanks!
I just completed the macOS Monterey update on my Mac Mini M1 and opened SD3 and it worked as expected. This was a minimal check – just a quick run-around on the edrum kit with an SD3 core lib config. Will do more exhaustive check later today.
Thank you, pumpkinking. However, this is something that should be officially covered by Toontrack’s support, instead of being addressed by an awesome customer (thanks again, pumpkingking 🙂 )
Any details from the Toontrack staff that we should be aware of?
I think toontrack would do a lite more testing than just a quick test to officially support. I never understand early adoption of operating systems when it could potentially break a lot if programs not just SD3.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
Exaactly! What’s the hurry to get cut riding the bleeding edge?
The pro audio community has barely moved from Catalina at the moment. They care more about making music than having the latest and often not so greatest OS. As will anything Apple, it is best to wait for a x.2 release before even thinking of taking a look.

My concern was less about upgrading right this minute so much as getting the discussion going. There’ll be other people who have the same question and will find this post when they search Google, etc, so they’ll see this and know to hold off on upgrading. Also, in the near future there will be people who buy new hardware that comes pre-installed with Monterey. 🙂
Yeah, right! They will be facepalming themselves for upgrading, as they are looking for answers as to why it’s not working. We’ve been through this many times on many music software forums and it’s always the same. Early adopters are very entertaining.

Hello –
Very interested to hear more about Monterey support….The new MacBook Pros ship with Monterey, and cannot be downgraded to Big Sur or other earlier OS. So fingers crossed that Superior Drummer works reliably….
Which explains why they make the mistake riding the bleeding edge. Not to mention the totally humourous irony of the amount of money spent on SD3 and the numerous SDXs (and perhaps other software and plug-ins), and yet the concern is more for a free operating system that really won’t have any real bearing on how your software operates. Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to listen to what the pro audio community is up to since their concerns are in the proper perspective.

Hi,
Monterey and Windows 11 testing is still ongoing, so we cannot confirm compatibility just yet.
Worth noting is that we have found a Pro Tools crash that occurs using most of our plug-ins including SD3 on Monterey, but right now Avid is reporting that Pro Tools is not compatible with macOS Monterey 12: https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Compatibility/Pro-Tools-System-Requirements
