    Hello,

I started just some days ago with SD3, so there are for sure users that can recommend and know more resources than me, but I can tell you that the channel of Shootie School (forum user too) has plenty of helpful videos on how to program, how to use the grid, even how to build songs. He uses sometimes EZD3, sometimes SD3, but the info is almost the same. He has a members area too, if you want access to more detailed videos, what I did and am enjoying and learning a lot:

I found another good channel too, from Mike Luke. It hasn’t new videos since three years, as he stopped to publish, but there is good material there:

    Have a good 2025!

edit: well, Shootie had answered while I was writing…

Another vote for Shootie. Check out his YouTube channel as far as anything ToonTrack goes.

other than that, ask questions on the forum.

Well, that was fast!  Thanks, all.

I just watched Shootie’s intro video.  I’ve also watched just about everything I could find from Mike Luke, until he signed off.

My areas of interest just now are navigation and sound shaping through effects, both within SD3 and in my effects-rich DAW.

Shootie, I might hit you up if I can form some questions beyond the most basic.  Many thanks!

Plenty of tutorials on mixing available. My faves are from Produce Like a Pro.

Yes, for sound shaping, use of fx, eq, compression, parallel channels, New York compression, parallel distortion, reverb, parallel reverb and so on it would be good to search for drum mixing tutorials. Aside from Produce Like a Pro I can recommend the channel Mixdown.online (Chris Selim). I find him very didactic and participate in a community where we make challenges or get critics of our mixes. Home Studio Corner (Joe Gilder) has at least four long series of “mix together”, where you can see him mixing a whole song in several chapters, including a lot of time dedicated to drums. Lanewood Studios has several videos with individual tricks or advices, too.

What is great of SD3 is the fact that one could use a lot of the general and specific drum mixing techniques using the mixer and the several available ambient channels. And if you need the power of some specific plugins in your DAW you could bounce the audio to it and do the mix there (what would be my preferred workflow, by the way).

Just got SD3 about a month ago, and got my first edrum stuff before that but haven’t touched it in a while because it didn’t seem to work well with the Logic VST. I have been into Shootie’s videos and will spend more time with them as well as others like Toontrack’s own ones, but I think the thing (especially with being brand new to edrums and a longtime acoustic drummer) is to get things triggering well and getting over not having a module when watching the videos when they’re always referring to the module. I am using an eDRUMin. One tricky thing is that it  has some redundancy to some of the tools inside SD3 and I’m a little confused as to whether they work together or not. The SD3 manual does say to get things as good as possible in your module…which for me is the eDRUMin computer app I guess, so I’m guessing in SD3 any redundancy is working in tandem?? Kind of like making it better or a finishing touch? Main thing is to get my edrum kit triggering as close to real as possible. I have a Lemon center piezo dual zone mesh head snare, the RTom blackhole slip on mesh head covers with single zone trigger for tom, kick and floor, Lemon 18″ 3 zone crash/ride, Two Lemon 15″ dual zone crashes, and Lemon 12″ 2 piece 2 zone hi hat.  And using TRS cables throughout as recommended by Audiofront eDRUMin. ANd running it all into an M2 Max Macbook Pro. 32GB unified memory (ram).

At first I wasn’t getting any real triggering from the single zone piezos on the black holes, but then I realized I had them in as a dual zone. And it seems to work ok as a mono input. But I’m wondering about using a dedicated pad instead of the blackholes. They don’t seem to be great

The Lemon 18″ Ride doesn’t seem to do anything when I plug in 2 cables. Only with one cable. But I don’t get 3 zones. But I’m supposed to be able to get 3 zones from one connection I thought with Bellsense I believe(?) from the eDRUMin????

The hihats worked surprisingly well right off the bat. I have that set to not use CC but rather dedicated midi notes which is an option that the eDRUMin has. Still have to tinker more because the 2nd time tried working with everything I messed with a lot of stuff and the hi hats seemed to not be as good as the first time. Although still really not bad.

SO I tried recording a song and it seemed to work pretty well for a minute and then stopped triggering completely for like 3 seconds, then seemed to come back. Any thoughts on why that would be? Happened a couple more times too.

When I tried to put togeth a couple parts that I recorded between the stoppages today in the grid editor I had this thing happen where the row I was on where I was either copying midi notes or drawing them in would not trigger the sound that was supposed to be on that row. Yet earlier in that row the correct sounds Were in fact happening. Ate up a couple hours trying to figure out that roadblock today. Any thoughts on that would be awesome too.

Going to lock myself in the room for a long time tomorrow so I’m sure I’ll have more then. I appreciate your insights! Thank you
