Hi,
I’m using Logic Pro X with EZMix. I’m working on a piece that has multiple guitar tracks, many of which use the same EZM patch but which are panned differently.
At the moment, I have each track using its own EZM instance. Should I be routing the tracks to a stereo bus with a single EZM instance of this guitar preset? Is that better practice, and if so, why?
Thanks
Hi,
I don’t think there’s a “best” practice, it always depends on the material and your intentions.
If your intentions are having several tracks with the exact same sound, well then it may work for you but if you have set the tracks at different volume and played with different dynamics, they will not hit the plugin with the same loudness, especially not if there are different amounts of tracks hitting the bus over the song’s timeline, and will not yield the same sound.
Personally I would set each track with the settings I want it to sound like and use the bus for broad strokes with adjustments for making the guitars fit better in the total mix.
But your mileage may vary.
BR,
John

Hi John,
thanks, I did note that I had less separation when I threw them all into the bus. Broad strokes sounds like a good definition ?. I’ll go back to work on each channel.
Cheers
