I am not sure if this is possible but currently I am using EZ Drummer and dragging the loops to a software track and then pushing the track to a bus to aux to output. Then putting reverb, etc. on the aux. However I want the bass, snare, toms, etc… to have different effects. When I drag the loop to a track is there any way to specify I only want the snare for this track?
Thanks,
Tim
Not knowing what DAW host you’re using it’s hard to give an exact answer. But, having said that, EZD can be set up in multichannel mode so that each of the mixer channels (kick, snare, toms, etc) will appear in your host for processing individually.

I am using Logic Express. I have setup the software instrument track and when I select the plugin it asks me if I want multichannel. However even though I can see the mixer in EZ Drummer when I drag to the audio track it gives me one track for the full kit. I know I am doing something wrong and it is probably simple but I am stumped……
I think you are confused… you must use a single instrument track but additional Aux tracks to capture outputs beyond the first one (which is bound to the instrument track, in other words Trk 1 from EZdrummer always resides there). That’s where you would apply the FX to separate drums (microphones rather).
Again not knowing which DAW you use it’s difficult to help in more details… a DAW is a sequencer, on a specific platform, at a specific built version. For example Logic Express 7.1 on Mac (although the latter is implied by default).

I stated that my DAW was Logic Express 8.0 in the last post. I understand using Aux tracks to put effects on, but I thought that each drum would be on its own track, for example bass drum on track one feeding to an aux track to give it effects, then snare would be on track two feeding to a different aux track and on…..
So you are saying that all drums are on one track? If so how do mix the drum levels and effects separately? I am not sure I am understanding so yes I am confused…..
you stated Logic Express with no version, sorry I don’t have a crystal ball and in this case it does matter as routing works differently in Logic 7 and 8.
Once you have added hardcoded Aux objects by clicking the ‘+’ sign at the bottom of the EZdrummer channel strip (instrument track), you can control and effect each drums separately from there. Of course you must select ‘multichannel’ (or any custom combination of outputs) in the EZMixer, as indicated in the operation manual.
If you want to program your drums on different track that’s also possible, to the extend that you describe if you feel so inclined (and brave), using the environment. That’s certainly not a requirement for the end result that you seem to seek however.

Thanks!! I think I understand what you are saying here regarding getting this to work. I will definitely experiment with this. I also agree with you that a drum on each track will probably not be needed to achieve my end goal.
Thanks again.
Tim,
I don’t use Logic, I use Cubase. But, when I’m programming and mixing I can set up 1 MIDI track that has all of the MIDI on it (kick, snare, hi hat, etc.)
Then, when mixing, I can have each of the mixer channels from the EZD Mixer on separate mixer channels in my DAW (Cubase) and process each of the instrument as I like.
Think of this signal path:
– 1 MIDI channel in your DAW holds the MIDI notes you’ve created (in this case all of the kit piece hits)
– These MIDI hits are fed into EZDrummer and are sent to the correct drums (provided you’re mapping is correct).
– Then, each drum is sent out the Mixer channels in EZD into your DAW channels (Multichannel if selected)
– These are sounds are sent out of your soundcard into your speakers and eventually into you ears!

Scott,
Thanks for that response. That makes sense and I can see how that will work in my scenario!
Thanks,
Tim
Yeah thats the way .
The instrument track in logic that would normally be stereo stays your midi track for all midi “and” ends up being the mic 1 (kik drum) and all others from snare onwards are on the aux’s,thats the way it works.
You need to call up the ezy internal mixer and in the drop down menu on mike outs you set it to multi(one sets all following automagically by default).
I save this in my autoload with my current favourite kit (claustrophobic)loaded as a multi.
