Would be nice if there were an option to replace the woodblocks with a clave. There are a lot of situations where this would be an instant improvement in authenticity.

I think Mikael Emsing wanted to record a more contempory library rather than an “authentic” or “ethnic” one. He felt there were already plenty of those and wanted the LP EZX to suit or accompany modern music.
I don’t want to appear to be putting words into his mouth, but although I noticed the claves were missing, I havent really missed them; I presumed that maybe he didn’t use them.
If you run LP in SD2, try using the large and small wood blocks, raised 8 semitones or so with 3 or 4 dB attack and 6dB or so sustain on the transient processor -sounds quite like a clave and certainly cuts easily through most music, nice with plenty of ambient mic added.
I hope this helps

Thanks for the tip. Will try that.
If that was the reasoning, then I think it was clearly flawed. Everything else sounds authentic enough. Just missing that clave.
It would have been a very simple, obvious addition to a Latin percussion set. Every other major piece is represented, so I don’t get “contemporary” here. Woodblocks, for instance, aren’t more or less contemporary than any other piece in the set. And with the ample quantity of Marvin Gaye grooves in the MIDI, again, not contemporary, though certainly fantastic. Love ’em.
Best,
fizbin

Dunno then, perhaps we could ask him his reasoning -was it an omission or does he have a “thingh” against claves? 🙂

Hmmm…I suspect the latter.

I’ve noticed that there are claves in the “Pop” EZX, Fizbin.
I can’t tell you anything about them as sounds. I’ve bought too many EZXs on a whim lately, so I dont want to download this one just to check, but they’re there with some Goat Hooves and Turkish and Egyptian bells.
The whole library looks like a bit of a mashup from other libraries, I don’t know whether anything was recorded specifically for this EZX or if it is all from other libraries. Mikael Emsing is credited, on the percussion there are also shakers, maracas, cabasa, tambourine along with claps and snaps -some/much/all of this may have come from the LP EZX or its outtakes, I suppose.
Conspiracy theoy! -maybe this is where the missing claves went!…
Comments please TT??

Good news! I can make an xDrum patch out of that in SD right?
Will try tonight.
Also, your suggestion on tuning up the woodblocks works pretty well. Did some transient and compression stuff and spiked it on an EQ up around 3k or so and it sounds very close.

Yes, you can add them as an X-Drum in SD2.
I usually put LP in its own SD2 instance for ease of mapping, and then delete and add stuff to make the setup I want. I have added a third, down-tuned conga, and I’ve bunged in stuff from the twisted kit too. Don’t forget to look at the mics and add new ones if you want more control.
