i am using sd3 and ableton 11. we use sd3 as our drums sounds for live performance with edrums. we use an instrument rack with multiple instances of sd3 and trigger different kits with different songs. works perfect with no latency issues when only running the entire kits audio out of 1/2
its easy enough to add multi channel output…..but the instant i do the latency goes up and the kits become unplayable for live use.
Anybody with ideas as to why? high end mac pro….dosnt seem to matter if i pear it down to just the instrument itself and get rid of the extra project tracks. dont even have to run anything thru the added multi track channel….just by adding it and choosing sd3 routing it adds the latency.
Sounds similar to what I do. I send separate instances of SD3, EzKeys and EzBass, sometimes two instances of EzKeys as output. They go into a 24 track recorder/mixer. I use Cubase 11 as my DAW. Latency is always an issue when doing stuff like this. I hit the same problem using the Yamaha ASIO driver that came with Cubase. The settings for the Yamaha ASIO are very limited. When I am doing the output to the recorder I go via a Steinburg UR816C audio interface. Plus two stereo tracks direct to the recorder. When I am doing this I use ASIO4ALL as my ASIO driver. This allows me to output to the two separate USB devices simultaneously. You also do this in Calkwalk using the WDM ASIO driver. The main difference between the Yamaha and ASIO4ALL drivers is configuration. The ability to tweak the ASIO4ALL driver settings means I can get rid of any nasties that occur. I don’t think I would try this live however. I would use the recorded stuff from my 24 track recorder/mixer for live stuff. Hope this helps.
Hi,
I am trying to replicate but I can’t. I am on Ableton 10 but when I add SD3 on a track and have low latency, then direct the outputs to separate tracks, I do not experience any difference.
This is also on Big Sur.

The key is multiple instances of sd3.
if u only do one with multi output it’s fine.
soon as u put more then one either by way of instrument rack or just more channels it seems to have the issue I describe
OK, please enlighten me on the Instrument Rack thing, Ableton is not something I’m used to operating.

So instrument rack is just a device that lets multiple instruments to be dropped on a single MIDI channel. U can then program which are on at any given time. It’s a simpler way of doing it rather then having seperate tracks per instrument.
For the purpose of my problem it dosnt seem to matter which of these 2 ways I use. The instant I add an audio channel for multi channel output on one of the ssd3 MIDI channels *when I have more then one instance of ssd3 The latency goes thru the roof
If I understand you correctly this time. Instrument rack is a plugin you are using in Ableton. I too am not a Ableton user. This idea of having instances of SD3 queued up and playing doesn’t seem like a good idea. However, I like experimenting too. Are these instances actually running but not being used/heard in the background?
Correct. I have 4 instances of sd3 loaded for 4 diff kits available on the fly with no load time
only one at a time is sending audio. But the multiple channel audio is specific per instance of sd3.
So 4 x sd3 out 1/2 stereo works perfect even all on at the same time. Soon as I add multichannel for any of the 4 kits it goes sideways
Don’t use the same midi track. I’ve build a setup with switchable four SD3 instances which is free of any lantency.
Who said it is free of latency. Because that sounds shite to me!
Have you considered giving us a chance to help you. Maybe you are just a lost cause.
