Hey there,
I’m running Pro Tools 12, and thus far I’ve got EX drummer pretty close to where I want it as far as sound just by using it’s own stereo out.
I found one beat I liked for the first verse in EX Drummer’s browser, but I needed to track MIDI for the remainder of the song. The one problem I’m having is the kick sounds completely different (Much more full and punchy… how I want it to be!) when it plays through the internal pattern. As soon as it goes into my recorded MIDI, it changes to a much more plastic, beater sound. Same kit, same song, same track.
I’ve tried different notes, and all different velocities. I’ve tried recording my MIDI into EXD2. It seems like the internal pattern includes some additional EQ or something? Is there any way to get my new patterns to go through this same processing? Seems very self defeating if there isn’t a way to do this.
I’ve attached an audio sample, First half is the internal pattern, second half is my midi from the track.
What EZX are you using and which library preset? All of your midi is in EZD2 and not Pro Tools? Are you using pro tools for anything, like EQ or any automation?
How are you confirming your velocity is not the issue?

Thanked by: TopherKinHere’s a simple test: drag the midi region from EZD to your DAW. If everything still sounds right, compare it with your midi region. If it doesn’t, then post your findings.

Thanked by: TopherKinAh, that was a great idea to drag the MIDI region out of EZD to compare. I found that there are THREE kick MIDI notes per beat, not just one. Also was able to confirm that I had matched velocity, but it seems the three notes were the key!
So I’m just dragging all my EZD MIDI regions onto the Pro Tools track and matching the Kick notes there.
Thank you!
Thanks for your reply! Found the answer below… EZD’s MIDI has the kick triggering on all three kick note maps, rather than just one as I had played it in Pro Tools.
But to answer your questions, I was certain about the velocity because I literally cycled through all 127 levels in my midi, and none seemed to match the tone that EZD was producing.
Using the Basic Modern preset/kit.
One verse of MIDI was from (and remained in) EZD, the rest of the song was MIDI on the Pro Tools track that I had played.
I have the Waves TG Mastering Chain on the EZD track, and that’s it for Pro Tools processing.
