Hi Guys,
Loving EZbass. My complements to the chef.
OK, but I am having a problem when trying to use EZ bass in my DAW, which is Studio One.
Initially I believed it was a problem with S1, so I sent them the message below. You also see their reply.

HI Guys,
I am tryng to enable key switches in S1 for EZbass.
I have put in the key switches in using the Sound Variations editor and they appear in red in the piano roll. All good.
But, when I try to use them, they don’t change the articulation, instead they actually play. If I press keys an octave below the red area I get what may be keyswitches, and so I thought “OK, I’ll just shift the keyswitches down an octave. The editor has a nice tool for this…”
But this does not work.
What happens is (i) still no keys switches (ii) still the notes continue to play and (iii) the area an actave above the new red area that was previously the domain of the keyswitches is silent and appears to be the new keyswitch area.
In other words, if I chase the correct ocatave for keyswitches the ocatave moves! I am chasing keyswitches and they running away.
BTW keyswitches are working fine for S1 native instruments.
Any ideas?
Adrian

Hello Joanna,
That instrument doesn’t appear to use keyswitches in the typical way. The switches only seem to work if you hold them down. For example, if you play a note and hit Slide Up or Down or Ghost Note you’ll hear that, but you can’t switch to those things and then play a note and hear it.
Reach out to Toontrack support for more details as we’re having trouble figuring it out as well.
Thanks,
Lawrence

Do you have any wisdom?

What happens if you just add them to the piano roll, instead of using the Sound Variations editor? This is not necessarily the solution, but will help decide whether the Sound Variations editor is the problem.
There are (at least) two assignments of MIDI note numbers in DAW’s and so sometimes your octave may not match that of a particular VI.
Make sure you’re using the keyswitches correctly too – some are triggered (you press a key and release it to activate an articulation), while some are activated while a keyswitch is held down. I suspect those in the latter would not be usable from the Sound Variations editor, since I assume that sends a momentary key trigger. I’m not a S1 user though, so I don’t know for sure how they’re implementing this.
Until you have figured out what the problem is, I would simplify, and just use the piano roll. Once you’ve figured out the ACTUAL notes required and whether they are momentary or held, you can figure out if the sound variations editor is actually usable going forward.
If the keyswitch notes are playing you’re in the wrong octave. Transpose these down until they work.
