How are users advised to to keep track of and manage grooves that may have potential for further follow up?
I have tried designating such grooves as favorites, but it appears that there is only one favorites list.
As an example, if I am working on 5 songs and I have identified 4 grooves for each song that I want to further explore (mix and match related grooves and fills or use the song creator), my list of favorites contains 20 items, but when working on a particular song, I only wish to see 4. (In actuality, I have more than 5 songs that I am working on and many more than just 4 potential groove families per song).
I have tried creating subfolders, one for each song, under User MIDI. My thought was to store my ideas in separate folders, and then look at my short list for a single song and audition other grooves and fills from the same library. However, once I drag a groove to User MIDI, it loses any connection to the originating library — Select in Containing Folder just points to User MIDI as opposed to the Toontrack MIDI pack from which it came, so auditioning related grooves and fills from the same library is impossible. I have also tried creating folders on my disk drive, dragging grooves there, and then making these folders linked folders, but the result is the same.
EZ Keys and EZ Drummer offer the ability to create sub folders where the user can still identify the originating library. Is there any way to do something similar in Superior Drummer 3? If not, are any workaraounds recommended?
Admittedly I haven’t tried this, but seeing that you’re on macOS, you could try creating aliases to your favorite MIDI files in a dedicated folder, rather than moving them. You might also be able to use the macOS Finder color labels to keep track of your favorites. The latter method of course would not show up inside of SD3.
