Dear Toontrack, could I ask for the following to be added to the sample list in future. As I can’t seem to find it in SD3 or my EZX kits. That is when a drummer counts in stick hits ; another is when a drummer just puts his drum sticks / brushes down for the day as he drops them / puts them on his snare.
What made me think about this is the fact that in the recording of your pianos in EZ Keys I can hear the pedal drop out as the person takes their foot off.
The same could be said for drums – foot off the hi-hat / the squeak in the chair as he turns away from the kit. All these would be great to have for an ‘as if live recording’. Just some ideas – I would LOVE to sample this myself but I have long since down sized my studio – from a live room with recording gear to just me in a small study. So no mic’s or drums anymore. But if in the event you mad enough to go ahead with such a sampling madness. Please let me know; I’d gladly join you in the fun!!
Regards and thanks for all the great products CA!
I believe that the Nashville EZX has stick click samples.

Thanked by: CAYou little genius ! Thanks for that ! I have that that owned for years and never saw the sticks there tot he left LOL! thank you.
I have both SD3 and the Nashville EZX, and neither of them have the missing, elusive, straightforward stick count-in. I’m looking for something as simple (and loud) as what is heard at the beginning of Bad Company: “Can’t Get Enough”
Is there an EZX that has this basic item, or is this something that I need to record myself?
Many thanks,
E

Yes. Stick click are in the Nashville EZX. See my pic below to see them selected in S3. MIDI note number 76 is the default note.

I have to say that I am surprised that sticks are not included in all the kits.
Surely it would be easy to include the sticks samples in the future hit section.
Regards
Rodney
There are plenty of stick click samples on the internet. Find one and chop it in any DAW and drag it into SD3. One of the beauties of SD3 is the ability to put any found sound into your kit.

Thanks to all for your replies. I did find the basic stick MIDI note, as mentioned by Scott. However, I really like the suggestion about finding a suitable sample out on the web and massaging it for use with SD3 (or my base Komplete Kontrol system). I think I’ll take the latter path as I’m seeking an aggressive count-in which is loud and punkish, and the current “official” offerings are surprisingly subdued. I think I may even take it an extra step and simply record me banging some sticks together in different ways to get exactly what I’m looking for, and then incorporate them into SD3 grooves, as I am able.

Thanked by: BlueMistralHi All
Is there a way to MIX or EQ the sticks I found in the Nashville EZX? I’m recording a track that required the sticks sound to actually play throughout the song, but they don’t appear in ANY of the mixer windows in EZD3 or SD3. The sound of them is too harsh for the song, so it’s not working as well as I’d like.
Any help would be gratefully accepted.
Thanks in advance,
Rick

Hi Rick,
Yes, in Superior Drummer 3: control (or right) click the sticks. Select More> Route Instrument Microphones. You will see the close Mic for the sticks (at the top) is OH. Select OH, at the bottom you will see a Create New Channel. That will create X-OH in the mixer which you can rename to “Sticks” (original huh?)… and then EQ, Compress, Distort, Modulate to your hearts delight.
Hope this helps…

Hi Brad
Thanks for your reply. Sounds simple but, I can’t find the sticks listed anywhere in SD3.
Could you possibly add screenshot and point to where I need to do this please? I need to see what you’re referring to. I have tried highlighting the sticks notes in the logic editor but that offers nothing and, in the SD3 app itself there is no mention of them, other than showing their note location in the midi map.
Thanks,
Rick
P.S. After writing my reply, I did find the option to create a new OH channel in SD3, but “sticks” is not listed as an instrument. I’m using the Nashville EZX, which includes sticks, so i don’t understand what I’m missing.

Hi Rick:
Here’s the sticks in EZX (and yes I see I mispelled Nashville):
Select More> Route Instrument Microphones.
You will see the close Mic for the sticks (at the top) is OH.
Select OH, at the bottom you will see a Create New Channel.
That will create X-OH in the mixer which you can rename to “Sticks (sorry, that’s all the files I can attach, hopefully, that get’s you on your way)

Oh and finally… if you are trying to add the Nashville EZX sticks to another SDX. Select Add Instrument from the DRUMS tab.
Click on Nashville EZX in the SDX/EZX list and sticks will show up as a “percussion” instrument type and create an X-OH channel in the mixer.

Hi Brad.
I could not have asked for a better reply. I’m sorting all of this out right now and it’s going to be a great help.
Massive thanks you so much for your time and effort.
Rick
