Is VST3 coming anytime soon?

    At this moment in time it makes little difference for Windows users. As long as you have a VST 2.4 version you should be fine. As Steinberg Cubase 12 which will be available later this year will only support VST3. This is important because Steinberg invented the VST plugin and they are the sole providers of the development kits. So plugin developers like me will no longer develop stuff earlier than version VST3. Steinberg will no longer support any developer before the VST3 standard they produced. It is a move designed to improve the quality of plugins across the board. It is a bit of a kick up the backside to companies that are not keeping up with the state of play.

    Not strictly true. Cubase 12 will only not support vst2 on the new M1 Macs. It will be still supported on pc for a while yet

    SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
