I’d really appreciate some advice here, and this is a long term issue I have had with Superior.
I need to be able to save multiple parts of a drum kit as a pre set, to recombine later into other kits as a “kit section”.
Such as Toms-Rides, Kick Snare etc.
What happens in the REAL world of auditioning drums for a song is this:
1) I like the toms from one kit, the snare from another, the kick from another, the cymbals from yet another.
2) I would like to COMBINE drum sections gotten from various kits, into a new kit.
I am re-learning SD3, but I know that there are lists of kicks, snare etc. And I can load a drum kit and get a 1 snare from another. That’s fine. But often, the toms for example, are routed through different compressors, EQs etc. And the tomes, or cymbals, are desired as a whole section of the drums.
What I want to do is be able to take a kit I like, and HIGHLIGHT the kit pieces I like, and be able to save those as a pre set. For later re combination.
So lets say I have some bad ass TOMs? I highlight the toms, right click, and save them as a pre set “Toms”. This saves any mixer reverb, compression etc. So that if I bring these toms into ANY other, for example, a kit where I love the kick and snare, I can load the “Toms” pre set into that kit, and they will sound exactly like they did from the kit I got them from!!
Now, maybe there are limits to this. For example, the system might prompt me whether or not I wish to change the master reverb in order to use the reverb the toms use etc.. I know there are limits to all of this. But How would you YOU go about this? I guess I could have more than one SD3 instance and use one SD3 for toms, another kit the rest of the kit, etc///, but what about my question? Even if a section of drums cant be saved with effect perfectly, is there a way to highlight certain drums in a kit and save only those drums as a pre set , to load into another kit. I am talking multiple drums. 3 or 4 toms, or all of the ride cymbals etc? Advice appreciated very much!
You can’t save only some drums, you save a Drums and Mixer User Preset preset – which saves the drums and the mixer. You can then load parts of that preset, for example only the toms, and the mixer channels where the toms are close miked (channels labeled “Tom 1”, “Tom 2” etc).

But that doesn’t work across different libraries – you can save individual instruments, you can save full presets (mixer/kit), there is such thing as a kit preset, but it doesn’t appear users can create drum kit presents. If that is the case – very odd that we have to go through one instrument at a time to load a kit configuration into a different room/library.
