Imported Snare Drums – Different Sound

I have samples of excellent snare drums with that real crisp, ‘gunshot’ type crack.

 

Trouble is, when I import this into SD3, the sound is somewhat awful.  Certainly not ‘plug & play’!!

 

Any ideas on the reason for this?  Is there some work to do on microphones and the sounds tab (Envelope, pitch, etc.) before this sound will play as copied?

Are you importing your samples into an existing SD3 project?

As well, do the sample rates match?

As well, you might want to update your SD3.

Hi,

it’s easy to update to the latest version, you just run the Product Manager and it will show you available updates.
I’m not sure what settings you are worried about but I would say there’s no need to worry.

The sample rate shouldn’t be a problem, since SD3 up or downsamples if your project is e.g. @48kHz and you sample is @44,1kHz.

What you need to check is the Microphone routing by right-clicking the instrument with your own imported sample and then ‘More > Route Instrument Microphones…’.

You would most likely want to route the Close User Mic to a New Channel, so select ‘Create New Channel’.
This makes your User Instrument have its own fader in the mixer and unless you have some processing on your Master Fader, it should sound just like it would if you auditioned it in the Finder/Explorer.
