Import MIDI into EZDrummer 3 from Alesis SR18?

I’ve created a lot of content on the Alesis SR18, and want to leverage that work by importing my songs into EZDrummer 3 via MIDI.  I have the Alesis connected to a Windows PC via MIDI through a Roland Rubix 44.  I’ve enabled the Rubix as an “Active MIDI Input” in EZDrummer. When I play a song on the Alesis (with MIDI Drum Out enabled on the Alesis), an “Edit Mapping in E-Drums/MIDI” window in EZDrummer registers the incoming MIDI notes in real time.

What I’m missing is how to SAVE the incoming MIDI data stream to a persistent container in EZDrummer (a file, for instance) that I can name, recall and play on demand.

Assistance appreciated.

Hi,

Record the incoming MIDI to your EZdrummer 3 Song Track. Make sure you have the same Tempo in both (Can you get them to Sync start?).
Cut your parts into desired lengths and perform any necessary adjustments. Then drag the parts to your ‘User MIDI’ folder at the bottom of the GROOVES page.
You can create Subfolders here and Rename your grooves.

Hi John,

Thanks for the procedural overview. I don’t know enough about EZDrummer yet to execute these steps.

Is there an online tutorial that would show how to perform this approximate set of steps?

Regarding a “User MIDI” folder, on the Grooves page I do see a “User MIDI” entry under “User Libraries” in a folder hierarchy that’s part of a left-side navigation panel in the center of the page, and also a “Drag MIDI here” box lower down, within a “Song Creator” panel.

Hello,

I’m reaching out again for assistance on how to import a MIDI “song” from another app (Alesis SR18) and store it as a complete song in EZDrummer.  I need a tutorial.

John, your instructions are too high-level to be executable by me.  For example, the first sentence in your reply is “Record the incoming MIDI to your EZdrummer 3 Song Track.”  That a “what,” and that makes sense, but I need the “how.”  I need a tutorial.

The user manual does not cover this topic that I can see, by doing several keyword searches.  There’s no Table of Contents, no Glossary and no Index.  With all due respect, Toontrack needs a technical writer/librarian that knows how to assemble a proper reference manual.

These days a lot of companies make heavy use of YouTube to supplement their product documentation, but my searches of YouTube have thus far not found a video on the topic of MIDI import to EZDrummer.

Further assistance respectfully requested.  If no further assistance can be rendered, I will call Toontrack to discuss a refund of my purchase.
