Can I import an existing midi file into EZ Keys? I tried to import a piano midi file by drag and drop but EZ Keys does not seem to import the file.

Not all hosts support dragging and dropping from a host into VST. I have Cubase 4 and Reaper 4 and you can’t drag and drop from the Reaper timeline into EZkeys Song Track.
You can drag and drop from the desktop into the EZkeys Song Track.
Or, you can use ‘Import MIDI File’ from Menu->Song Track.

The only hosts that drag and drop from host to EZkeys works with (as far as we know) is Sonar and Pro Tools 8 and above.

Thanks, It is simple enough to export the midi file in Cubase 6.5 and then import into EZ Keys…..

Is drag n drop supposed to be working in Studio One? Cause it’s not working for me. Huge bummer, especially considering what a drag n drop centric DAW Studio One is.

To clarify on Martins post above. We have done everything we can to support drag and drop of MIDI from all major hosts into EZkeys. However, some things are out of our control. This far we have only been able to receive useable information from Sonar and ProTools 8 (and above)

So are you saying that it’s not possible to implement this in Studio One until PreSonus works further with you to get it working?

I don’t have the list right now. I’ll have to check tomorrow morning. However, as far as I can recall, when we tested Studio One we received nothing upon DnD. As I said previously, we are in the hands of the host. If the host doesn’t give us anything then a DnD is not possible.

Thanks. I’ll start nagging them over in the Studio One forum then!

Looks like you may have gotten their attention…. you received a response from the S1 Product Manager;
“As our instrument parts are not MIDI files until you export them, and the plug is looking for MIDI, I can see why it doesn’t work in that direction…there may be a way for us to make it work directly, and I’ll look into that.”

I have successfully dragged and dropped from Reaper 4 into the song player and also the Favorites folders by holding down Ctrl + Alt before selecting the midi item in the Track Panel.

Tried Dave’s suggestion in Cubase 6.5.1 and it does not work,,,,,

No, dragging from a Cubase MIDI track into EZkeys does not work. It is not exclusive to EZkeys, Cubase can’t drag MIDI into any VST instrument.

Looks like I will have to send Steinberg a note about this. Would be nice to be able to do this !
Thanks Scott

Fortunately, the easy workaround in Studio One is to create a MIDI Dump folder in the S1 Browser. Make a tab for it so it’s always there. Then drag your MIDI from the timeline into the MIDI Dump folder, then drag it right back out into EZkeys. Two drags instead of one, but it’s seamless. Tried it out tonight and it worked a treat.
