I’m not sure where to submit this, as there isn’t a place for ideas or feature recommendations. this is my first posting here
I love the idea of the bandmate feature, it is the reason why I upgraded from ezd2, however, Im very disappointed by it. I find the rhythms and patterns it creates do not match or work with the sample fileat all.
At first I tried with a simple distorted guitar riff, the rhythm created was just messy and disorganized. Then I read it works better with a DI track, so I tried that and it improved a tiny bit, but I still found it missed clear accents on kick and snare. Even adding more hits didn’t help the sound. However, I do like how it adds more ghost notes.
Then I tried a simple midi keyboard riff, same issue, the pattern created just didn’t work very well with the music.
So I want to offer a couple of suggestions:
Based on a gate, let the user adjust a gate to feed the bandmate algorithm a signal so the drums can react to the main ‘hits’ or the main ‘peaks/accents’ of the signal. This way I can let the software easily program the base of a rhythm then I can add embellishments on the midi.
Another suggestion is to select a drum piece to start building with, for example, I select the Kick, and the algorithm builds just a kick pattern. Then I can select snare, and it builds and snare pattern using the sample signal and the kick signal. This way you can build progressively better patterns.
those are my two cents, I hope Toontrack monitors this forum so the can see this. I look forward to recommendations from the community on how to make bandmate work better myself.
Thanks!
It works better with undistorted guitar than distorted. I give it clean bass lines and get good grooves back.
