Hello from Germany! First of all sorry for my bad english.
I´m trying to “translate” a bad recorded drum take in to something good with the superior drummer 3. I can use the SD3 core libary and the independent sdx. And with both of them it works very well exept when it comes to the hihat. In the original recording the hihat is “open edge” played in 8/4 with a very even “velocity” and i want to do that too with the superior drummer. The Problem is: When in “voice and layers” the voice limit is set over “1”, the hihat will lose all the definition and sounds washy and when the voice limit is set on “1” the hihat is sounding like “3 samples and a random generator”. It doesent matter in which velocity strengh the hihat is programmed or what sdx i´m using. the phenomenon is always there… and for sure i have set the layer limits on “-“.
So is there any solution for me? How can i get a realistic sounding 8/4 open hihat with even velocitys without losing definition (and without playing it in real life :P)? All hint´s are welcome!
Thank You!
Pat
I would leave the Voice and Layers controls well alone. By limiting those, you’re basically forcing the software to “machine gun”, as you have noticed. I can’t think of any good reason to mess with those settings, unless you’re deliberately trying to achieve a robotic, digital sound.
Your best option to get a “staccato” hihat that still sounds natural is to use a steady Velocity for each hit, and make sure you use the same Articulation throughout.
