I used to use a Roland module, and it was very easy to separate sounds. I like to use 2 triggers on a snare and one for a cross stick per se…very easy to do.
When I try to do this with SD3, I find that when I plug a separate trigger in for the cross stick sound, it tends to trim the snare decay from my snare trigger, I guess because it’s using the same sample. How do I eliminate one trigger affecting the other?
I’m not sure what you mean. I haven’t had a problem using a snare with centre and rim trigger, centre rim and bt1 for cross stick and now a digital snare with a td50x.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
I use my snare and another trigger. The snare produces the snare and rimshot. The 2nd trigger I use as a separate crossstick

Hi there,
So the other trigger is transmitting MIDI Note 37 (sidestick articulation), however it’s muting the Snare Centre (38), Snare Rim Shot(40), articulations?

I will have to get some time with my rig later to play around with this. A workaround off the top of my head would be to Add Instrument > Add the exact same snare drum, unload all but the cross stick articulation. With the original snare, unload the sidestick articulation.

Hi,
which SDX and Snare Instrument are we talking about?
Have you tried opening the Voice and Layer Property Box for the Snare and removing the Limits?
BR,
John

HI there,
Sorry for the slow response. Using kit: “Superior Drummer 3”, Preset: “Rock Kit 1” side stick articulation is not cutting off or ducking the centre or rim shot articulations.
So as John asked, what SDX, kit and preset are you using?

Superior Drummer 3 version: 3.3.6
Operating system: macOS Sonoma (14)
I just checked with that preset and could hear the cross stick muting the centre hit ring/tail. If you have death and darkness, the Dunnett snare rings for days and should be easier to tell. Also the VK from FoR Live Room.
I guess it’s going for the realism of muting the snare with the hand as a cross stick would typically be played.
Edit: Similar to Brad’s suggested work around, I found if you stack on the centre articulation the same snare, then mute the center articulation on that first snare, the cross stick wont mute the stacked articulation.
