Hello.
I’ve been using EZD2 and SD2 and 3 for a while now but mainly as drum sample to replace or enhance kick and snare drums in my mixes.
With all this pandemic around I started to use my electronic drums a bit and have a question.
My drum kit is very basic and I want to add few things after the initial groove has been recorded. All is fine as long I am within the predefined kit but I want to add one extra ride cymbal to one of the kits from Death & Darkness bundle.
I want this extra Ride to be on the left hand side from drummer perspective. I can add this instrument and pan it to the left but I can still hear it coming from the right side in overheads.
How do I make this extra ride to be where I want it to be in overheads?
Thanks

Go into the microphone routing and send it through its own channel. You can then pan that channel.

In addition, as per my question from yesterday, be aware that if you use bleeds, you will still hear the instrument in its original recorded position.
You will need to to duplicate those bleed channels, and route your new instrument’s bleeds to those channels as well and pan them accordingly.
It’s a pain in the arse but I haven’t found an easier way to accomplish this.

Thanked by: RudalAudio production can be a pain in the arse at the best of times… but it’s all about the results and when they’re worth it, then the effort was worth it.
the best part of modern production is that you can save it for use later, saving you the effort of doing it more than once.

Thanks Gents.
I shall start reading up on re-routing mikes then
Worst case scenario I will have to use one of the Avatar kits, those have plenty of Rides on both sides.

It’s not as daunting as it may have been made out to be. Yes, it could be time consuming, but most audio work is at first. Prep work is often a big part of mixing.

Agreed that it’s not difficult, but it’s a bit of work, and unfortunately, not easily replicable, unless you always want to pan the same cymbal position. It’s little things like this that make me wish SD3 was scriptable, so one could easily write a macro that would take care of this with just a couple of custom UI controls.
Are you listening, Toontrack?

Couldn’t you then tie a macro to the panning to pan then all at once with a single knob? There is that capability already.
