When using multiple lanes in Cubase (I happen to use v10, but the same in other versions) the first output lane is named the same as the parent track. Example, I open SD3 in Cubase and the track is named “Superior Drummer 3”. Then I open multiple outputs for SD3 in Cubase. The first output lane of the outputs gets named “Superior Drummer 3”, same as the track name. When I rename the output lane to “Kick” the track name, which was “Superior Drummer 3” also changes to “Kick”. Maybe there is a setting somewhere, SD3 or Cubase, to keep this from happening so the two can have unique names?
This drove me mad for ages the solution for me is to load SD3 as a rack instrument .
Put all the track info on a midi track then start adding outputs for each SD3 channel you use.
You can then name them anything you want and apply Cubase inserts, sends and automation seperately to each drum.
Is a slight faff at first but you’ll soon get it.
I normally do all my editing in grid edit in SD3 then just drag and drop it out to the midi track that I created for the rack instrument. I also set all my SD3 channels to unity and control everything from the DAW mixer.
I know people don’t like using rack instruments in cubase but in this instance I think it’s the perfect solution.
