All you need to do to get a beat into Logic from SD3 is to drag the groove from SD3’s track to Logic’s instrument track. However, you can just keep it in SD3 and turn on Follow Host if you want. The only real need to drag it into Logic in your case is if you’re going to be shuffling the entire arrangement around.

Side note: regarding Drummer, you don’t need two separate tracks. Just change Logic’s kit to SD3 and you can work with the drummer region using Logic’s Drummer controls. No need to use the piano roll unless you are writing custom parts, which you can intermix with drummer regions. You can do it all in a single track.

    Here’s how I do it:

    1. Create a software instrument track in Logic
    2. Make SD3 the virtual instrument on that track
    3. Open SD3 and search for or create a groove
    4. Click on the groove and drag it onto the Logic track

It seems like I lose the instrument mapping when I drag a groove from sd3 into a track of Logic Pro x.  the midi hits are there, but they are on instruments that weren’t recorded for the current drum set; therefore, there is no sound when the midi note hits the playhead.  I have to drag a whole region’s worth of midi hits to different keys to change the sound.  For example, change from kick to hi-hat.

mappings are one way and are for reading whatever MIDI instrument data into Superior Drummer.  Exporting MIDI from Superior Drummer is always in its own format.

If you want to export from Superior Drummer into Logic without affecting the original MIDI track, create a new track for the same instrument and drag your MIDI there.

Thanks for the reply, but something still isn’t clicking in my brain about this.  When I click and drag to a new midi track, I am missing one of the notes.  It may be mapping, but I am struggling with this.  I am pulling the midi segment from the list of midi grooves that you can audition.

I’m not sure what you’re getting at here. I drag grooves into Logic all the time without issue. In this case, are you using the standard default mapping when playing the grooves?

it might provide a bit more insight if you post your Superior Drummer project.
